That's really strange. You'd think that if they aircraft were full, they'd be making money, and they'd want to either increase the number of flights, or bump some up to CRJ 700s.

On a per passenger basis the 50 seat CRJ is an expensive aircraft to operate, especially as the cost of fuel goes up. As the leases on those aircraft come up for renewal airlines appear to be replacing them with bigger planes such as the 700 or turbo-props such as the Dash-8. It's just a mater of time....

And Delta has also said that any city that is two-four hours or more in flight something like that will get dual class planes so Winnipeg doesnt fall into that because its a short 55min flight. But you see cities like Fargo and Bismark and soon to be Minot get A320 and MD80's because there is buisness in those American cities even though Winnipeg is like the Delta hub for Canada other then Toronto. maybe the WestJet code shares will help Winnipeg because she has said they get a dump load of people connecting from WestJet to Delta on their flights now.
and ya Salt Lake City didnt work, Detroit was just a seasonal flight for hunters back in the Northwest days and the WAA asked Delta to do a JFK or LaGuardia flights becuase of there expansion in New York but they said no. but she has said that Atlanta would be the perfect city for Winnipeg. she has said that over half of every flight has people going to Atlanta. who would of thought Winnipeg and Atlanta would have so much business. wow that was a good rant about Delta haha.
happy st. patricks day
We do a ton of business, why just recently we bought their hockey team LOL!

I hope so. I don't mind the CRJ, but I think it's crazy that Delta uses them exclusively on such a busy route.

i talked to my friend again today and she said that Delta is phasing out the CRJ200's with all of them to be gone by like 2013 area so they are hoping they can get the 700's and at least one 900 because their manager said they won't see mainline anytime soon unless its a diversion plane. and she was saying how they are suppose to be getting rid of their 6th flight again because "it isn't making any money" she doesn't know what is up with Delta. its like they don't care for Canada

Any idea what that would mean for some of the smaller Canadian centre's like Regina and Thunder Bay? I think they fly the CRJ 200's to both of those cities.

Well, that's good news on one side, and bad on the other. Maybe it will be a middle of the day flight that disappears? Maybe they aren't as full?

Interesting. I was reading, and it seems that Delta can't have anymore E175/190, or CRJ 700/900 because of their pilots' contracts. That means that they probably can't phase out the CRJ 100/200 (2015 was the speculated date), unless they have something to replace it with. Their contracts with the regional airlines that operate the jet go past 2015 in most cases.

Air Canada Jazz serves Toronto to Minneapolis, and it's only slightly busier than Winnipeg to Minneapolis, so, why haven't they jumped on board?

What do they do on a morning like this one where 3 US flights leave the airport within 5 minutes of each other? Is the wall between the US border pre clearance area and the other part of the airport moveable?

Not likely, Air Canada is trying to feed traffic originating in Minneapolis into their network in Toronto to make onward connections. If Air Canada adds new flights in Winnipeg its either a case where it thinks large portion of the passages have that as their origin/destination or its feeding an Air Canada or partner hub.

Delta is trying to do the opposite with their hub in Minneapolis. With Westjet as a partner, someday it may start to add flights to Minneapolis.

Westjet flights to Minneapolis would be okay, as well. I don't like them as much, but, beggars can't be choosers, I suppose.

Sorry, this thread has become post after post from me, but I read something that made me think. About 60 000 people per year are flying from Grand Forks and Fargo that would otherwise be going from Winnipeg. About 30 000 of those are going to Vegas. That's the equivalent of 4 Westjet 737 - 700s per week. That would pretty much take Winnipeg from 4 flights a week to Vegas to a point where the service would be at least daily.

I'll fly from here even if it costs a bit more so that my airport can have better service.

So, I got a response from the WAA for some questions I asked. There's going to be another retailer behind the MLCC, so that explains the ugly wall. They're going to make it look better soon, they say.

On Minneapolis service, WAA says that 5 - 6 flights a day will continue as they are for the foreseeable future (the 6th flight only operates at the busiest times of the year) as Delta is very happy with their load factors (since they're 100% on many flights, I would hope so).

On new destinations, the WAA expects to have some news on new trans border routes in the coming months.
