I like it, it looks so original and exciting!
This tower is very sensitive to light. Meaning little light. Around dusk or in the twilights of the morning, this tower looks nice with its dark blue facade and the concrete bracing appears in a much darker hue. But around the afternoon, when the sun hits the glass and bracing, it's too washed out. Kinda throws the whole balance off, and idk but IMO it's to much going on with a sporadic burst of yuck. Really the best thing to do when viewing this tower is to down two or three Long Island Ice teas and then stare at it. In a matter of 20 minutes, it can look beautiful. But the minute it wears off, you vomit, as you begin to sober up. And yes, there is vomit. Lots of it.

I recall similar options echoed when the NY Times Tower was under construction on 8th Ave across from the Port Authority terminal.

That particular design was heavily dependent on the reflection of the sky and the sun.
During the evening sunset, when the sun was reaching the horizon, the NY Times tower really shined.

I imagine the same effect with this tower.
Thoughts?

This tower makes the New York Times Tower look beautiful (which still sucks, IMO)

Oh god... A trompe l'oeil paint-job? Just when things couldn't get any worse. I'm going to take some bolt cutters up there and cut those spindly spires off, by the way.

W-T-F?!? This is a new building and not something out of the dystopic 80's or Pomo 90's?

This is terrible, the design makes no sense, no flow. What is it trying to be? Postmodern? Brutalism? Random X bracing and a faux-traditional roof job? What a mess.

To go with the old building of the year award skyscraperpage should create an award for the worst building of the year. This is certainly a candidate.

Exact same comment I was thinking ... PVC!!!! This is bad. The older historic building is really a gem. This is just horrible. Thankfully from a lot of angles you can't see this as much on the skyline.

Agree here... just no rhyme or reason. Gehry's is daring and iconic. This is just a big mess...fortunately doesn't stand out too much in the skyline or it would stick out like a sore thumb.

Well, as lame as it might sound, this building does look much nicer in person; but I gotta say, looking at the above pics, what the actual f.
It's the Hot Mess Tower.

On a positive note, this makes William Beaver House look amazing by comparison.

5 Beekman on the left. Revolting enough to make you want to jump off that balcony.

I must admit . . I was laughing my head off
at everybody's comments above . .
photolith's - the "PVC piping on top"
Zerton's - "trompe l'oeil paint-job ?" . .
and going to get "bolt cutters" to "cut those spindly spires off" . .
and all the rest of the venomous comments
about this wayward building . .
all of which I wholeheartedly agree with . .
It's actually nice to hear other people bitch about design . .
besides just me, for a change . .

but now something very strange is happening to my take on this one . .
I'm starting to find the 115 Nassau tower, extremely humorous . .
even hilarious . . It's trying so hard to be sophisticated . .
like some bewildered dumb puppy . . falling all over itself . .
trying to learn the trick . .
it's huge effort, and small success . . somehow makes the structure
seem somewhat "quaint" . . & much shorter than its almost 700 ft. height . .
and there's a bit of charm . . like a good-natured, slightly retarded kid . .
who enjoys laughing at himself in the company of good friends . .

Maybe I'm starting to enjoy 115 Nassau because of its situation . .
amongst other more beautiful buildings . . the taller, truly sophisticated Gehry . .
the old copper-topped, double-turreted 15 Park Row bldg. . .
and the beautiful elaborate red-brick Victorian it's attached to . .
. . and unlike "oh so demure", minimalistic 4 WTC, it has stuff to look at . .
warm naked concrete, . . 3 trusses holding it together, . .
and the absurd, spindly finials of PVC . .
I will never admit to friends, of course, . .
that there is something about this graceless building that's "cute" . .
the advantage here of anonymity . .
