On June 30, 2008 an Anti Blight Rally was held in Hartford, Connecticut at 445Zion Street near Trinity College. The building is one of many vacant, abandoned and boarded up buildings in the city. The city however currently has an anti-blight oridinance.
More then 50 people including city residents, community activists and members of the Hartford Preservation Alliance, Hartford Areas Rally Together, Hartford 2000 and the Hartford Chapter of ACORN gathered to push city officials to strongly enfore the anti blight ordinance.
This particular building is owned by an individual in Brooklyn, NY and has sat vacant for many years. Finally the city has sent out a notice that if certain improvements are not made within 30 days the owner will face fines of $100 per day until the improvements are made.
Hartford has so much potential but it seems it's still missing something.
It's great to see the community out on the streets working for improvements.
I think the commuter rail will help, as will the busway and the science center.
Hartford does have a LOT of potential and despite what the media portrays there are a lot of dedicated citizens that are committed to improving Hartford!!

As an update...im pretty sure this building is still sitting, still vacant and abandoned at the foot of Trinity College. I personally would love to see someone come and renovate it. I get afraid (especially in Hartford) that when things are knocked down new buildings are not built in their place.
