They're still trying to figure out what to do with the burned down pier that this was supposed to connect to. It's not currently in the budget so likely won't see this for another half decade at least unfortunately. As a resident of NW I would rather see the city put money into the pedestrian/cycling bridge to Queensborough they were also looking into, rationale being that there's other routes to Sapperton from the rest of NW but only the Queensborough bridge connects to QB which has pretty poor connections to the rest of NW for pedestrians and cyclists. Billard Architecture also came up with an excellent design and I'd like to see something of this caliber built:
