Will the taller building have a huge screen as the one seen in the renderings?

They'll break ground when the guy in the orange vest comes.

Something might happen with this this year. There were some tarps on the old lowrise there and it looks like it'll be coming down soon.

Demolition is already underway and they've already gutted the interior partitions and walls.

Excavation should begin soon afterwards probably in some weeks time.

It seems like it's well on course.

Demolition of the existing buildings on site is currently underway.

The tear-down has now been demolished, but they are still clearing the site. Nice to see another old tear-down bite the dust.

This is indeed quite sad. Development is really a mixed bag.

It's wonderful to see the parkade at Station Square being eaten away. It will be wonderful to see this happen again in Brentwood, Richmond, NE False Creek, and on many sites downtown. Parkades and surface parking should have (almost) no place in Metro Vancouver.

It does suck, however, to see these walkups being taken down.

In Vancouver most new towers have an "affordable housing" component. That isn't the case in Burnaby? Why is that?

No political will. Burnaby has virtually zero social services of any kind. Welcome to the suburbs.

And yeah I like new buildings from a tower nerd point of view but it's not a good thing to get rid of walk ups. I live in one and it's a pleasant life with neighbours I know and a 15x17' master bedroom and a mortgage under $200k. Newer isn't always better.

This article from the Burnaby Now explains why.

What I like about Gold House is that it's two towers that will finally bring some variation to all the row of towers along Beresford. It will make the skyline more interesting.
