I'm surprised the building next door goes down that deep.

Thanks for all the pics!

That one next door is Carmanah Plaza - a fairly new project.

Oh well, 745 Thurlow is better than the ugly parkade that was there before, so we should count our blessings ..... even if Carmana Plaza does have a row of Pindo palms in the driveway (sigh) ...

Interestingly, both buildings were designed by Musson Cattell Mackey, it seems.

Thanks for the updates guys, this tower will be a nice addition to the area. One less parcel of land to fear becoming a condo, haha!

It's unfortunate, though, that it will be even shorter than the not-very-tall residential condo beside it. The prestigious law firm moving into its top floors will be denied a view of English Bay, while the city will be denied a more dynamic and varied skyline, once again.

Yes, just a few floors too short as you say, and it just becomes infill. Pleasant enough infill, but infill nonetheless.

Views of English Bay should still be pretty good from the top few floors:

Wood is cheap in Vancouver and easy to work with.

If there was a better, faster, cheaper way of building the building it would be employed. Vancouver developers and builders are quite sophisticated.

there are better, faster, and often times cheaper ways to build. Vancouver and British Columbia are typically 10 + years behind and in some cases a lot more behind the technological advances that the world of Construction utilizies.

Vancouver only has started to employ structural shotcrete for vertical concrete, a method that cuts materials in half and time in half, its been used in the United States and other countries for a better part of 20 years, Vancouver developers have only start incorporating that into parkade construction in the last 5 or so years.

Vancouver Developers are hardly in my opinion sophisticated when it comes to Construction, as a Developer and 15 year veteran of construction, we could learn a lot and reduce the construction costs from other places in the world.
