In true Edmonton fashion the (parking) podium has no relation to the tower whatsoever.

A modern version of this massing with a glass tower above?!?!
Geeeesh! That's a terrible loss for Edmonton. There's no reason why it couldn't be re-created to look the same with a tower rising above it.

No. If there's one thing Toronto can do is build a podium that fits with the tower(s) above. Emerald would be an exception in Toronto. It isn't for Edmonton.

It would be fantastic if they could recreate a Tegler lookalike with a sleek tower above. It could become as nice as the new Enbridge tower (Kelly Ramsey) tower which is definitely a standout in downtown Edmonton.

Of course. It's quite a win too. The old design would have been an eyesore. The revised design is still mediocre and that's still not a good thing for something as tall as Emerald.

The image is tiny and low resolution, hardly enough info to form a professional opinion. Prejudiced architectural profiling is easy to do, especially when the person doing it is hiding.

I have confidence that this tower will turn out just fine. The renderings for The Pearl by the same developer did not look great either and it turned out to be a very nice tower.

I am not sure why the introduction of some color in a podium gets such low regard here. Does the podium rally have to match? In what way? I doubt they will build a podium that is so far out from the tower to not look good.

More than half of all commercial buildings in any city have mismatching podiums.

C'mon. I can see mullions for crying out loud! The nuances in the curtain wall don't mean shit when the main components (i.e. the balconies and podium) are so off putting.

I prefer my privacy but, I'm not hiding. There just isn't any point. I'm not going to be pressured by your passive aggressiveness knowing full well your not going to be fair and balance because, for whatever reason, you feel hurt by what I have said about some developments. I've said it often times before too. We don't build we like. We have to build what we can sell. There are certain things we won't compromise on even if hurts the bottom line. One example, We will never have our name on a beige or grey stucco box with a fancy brick or stone facade slapped on the front. No one should put up with that crap but, pretty much everyone does.

It is understandable why so many people have grown tired with your views, seemingly attacking every project on here LOL. The bottom line is you have standards you do not see being met, while others find appeal in many projects you do not. In regards to Emerald, it could be so much worse, like:

It'll be.....interesting I suppose to see what comes out of the site for that coveted corner of Edmonton....where the BMO building is being torn down (Not bad of a midrise.....but I understand if some people find it fugly though I don't agree with those views)

For some reason....I kind of liked aspects of the initial render for the Emerald tower....now it looks more..monotone. (Either way, I shouldn't really be too critical of this....thing and it's podium)
