Yup. The diamond crown has totally ruined this tower. It looks absolutely ridiculous.

It may be a preliminary design.

I liked the tower of Isengard design a lot better than the giant diamond penis.

Agreed.

Perhaps the diamond will look better once completed or maybe the architects will come to their senses and ditch it.

I don't get what's wrong with the diamond, really. People hated SWFC's hole either and now they all love the project. Seems like so many people manage to hate any Chinese project for any random reason.

No. It looks like a bad 80's night club.

Huh? This design is totally unoriginal, tacky and cheap looking. It looks like 2IFC with a giant cubic zirconia on top.
I love plenty of Chinese skyscrapers, but there is a bunch of shit too. You're always going to have a lot both when a country is developing as rapidly as China is. Actually, I find most people (at SSP anyway) very positive towards China's developments. Dubai on the other hand....

Well, we have seen just one rendering of the new version with the diamond at the top. Maybe it looks better on other renderings. I like the first one better but we shouldn´t demonize the new version because of one single angle.

I can imagine they can do great lightning-things with such a structure at the top.

This isn't an issue of bias against Chinese projects. I loved SWFC since the beginning (And even more after the hole became a square.) This is just a hideous building.

It looks like it's been built in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure within five years this area will have a population of around 2 million and density rivaling Shanghai. That's China for ya.

I like how they have it towering over the other monumental towers of China, except that short tower with the round thing on top. Is that in Wuhan or something?

Likely third tallest in the world when done, China doesn't mess around.

Yeah I was gonna say the same thing. I assumed this one was going up near all the other big Tianjin projects? I guess they're using the ole' if you build it the city will come motto.

Me too.

It might be the impression everyone gets by looking at those photos. Maybe because it IS in the middle of nowhere? But I also agree with you that in some years from now this will be totally different.

Start at the base, and look up slowly. The tower seems to have a very strong sense of verticality, right until the top.

That's when I imagine tires screeching.

EEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRK!

Needs some work, I think.
