The crown doesn't really bother me but it could definitely go without it.

Nice update. It's great to see that work is still being done on this one, especially when updates are so hard to come by.

Some more (confusing) renders. Is this really under construction?

Unbelievable how much is getting build in Tianjin at the moment. I've been in Tianjin twice, the first time in 1997 and the second time in 2006. Nothing much had changed about the city in those 9 years, and it was still a dirty, provincial mediocre city, compared to Beijing or Shanghai. No serious skyscrapers back then... I am looking with great interest at all these new developments.

I generally love China's towers but this thing is abysmal, both the fins and the diamond studded designs; in the middle of empty desert no less.

Back to the drawing board I say.

I'm surprised it took this long actually. Since it's basically Beijing's port , one would have expected that anything that wouldn't fly in Beijing to find an easy home in Tianjin. Considering that the major changes are in the south , one would have expected Beijing officials to start concentrating a little harder on the dongbei provinces.

Oh , PhxPavilion , no , that's not desert at all. It's basically a brownfield site. They all look like that here. Don't forget , this is China and it's been centuries since any of it was empty.

Maybe not desert but this looks largely empty and barren to me especially for a tower of this magnitude.

^^it's highly productive farmland, just the construction site has obviously been cleared to allow construction to occur.

Yes, it´s simply an ugly tower. Recently I read, that there are not so much tenants for the tower. I hope construction will be suspended soon.
