Its amazing how all of these cities 20 years ago were so small. This is the real life Sim City.

Have you seen the China Supertall thread over at SSC?

Plenty of 500m+. It never gets old.

lol! It's almost like that, but in the end towers over 500m will always capture my interest. I'm blown away by how many are going up in China. They're a dime a dozen.

Amazing how the Chinese just have these supertalls popping up one after the other like there's an assembly line of them...
Also those houses and midrises in the background look nice.

I saw some models for this when I visited SOM and was instantly excited about this one. The openings that protect it from wind are visionary.

An update, but first -- Tianjin is undergoing a crisis situation as the city has been rocked by a blast of explosives within a shipment at the container terminal.

SOM-Designed Supertall Under Construction in Tianjin

Quote:
The era of the supertall has certainly taken hold in China, where an immense number of skyscrapers above 300 metres tall are under construction. The Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area is one of the many sites that will be anchored by a supertall, and this one happens to boast a design by the respected team at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The 530-metre Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Binhai Center will house offices, 300 service apartments, and a five-star hotel with 350 rooms.

Good old China, putting up a 1,740 foot tall building as if it were any other.
