Exciting times. Its about time that the outer boroughs push into supertall territory. Stern, like Barnett, needs statues to commemorate his skyscraper efforts because he has the motivation to think big.

This would really be incredible. A tower with such a height would really expand NYC skyline and compliment Manhattan's perfectly.

I hope this is the beginning for more to come for Brooklyn! If Brooklyn was a city all by its lonesome self, it would be the 4th most populous city in the US of A. Brooklyn deserves this.

The original render that brownstoner used to crop out the model from.

Common courtesy... Well they've edited their post now to include a credit.

If this thing actually turns out to be in the range they are talking about, Brooklyn is gonna need some stuff in the 700-900ft range to help bridge the gap between it and the current crop of 500-600ft towers currently popping up all over down there.
Remember for some time, a lot of people were against anything being taller than One Hanson (Williamsburgh Savings Bank tower). That was until the Brooklyner came and was the first. Since then I believe every 'tower' has been taller than both One Hanson and the Brooklyner at 512' and 531' respectively. Only up from here! Literally. haha.

Not only compliment the Manhattan skyline but set itself up as a great standalone skyline as well. I truly feel after this project along with City Point 3, Pacific Yards, Domino Sugar Factory, (etc I'm sure I'm missing developments) Brooklyn will be among one of the best in America for skylines.

Not to mention our sister borough across the river! New York City having 3 distinct (4 once L.I.C build more) skylines will indeed place the "skyline battle" among America cities to sleep. Imagine the views from the harbor and from the Empire State Building! No other city in America will be able to compete with the new New York City skyline.

I just hope both Stern and Extell bring GREAT architecture. We don't need anything mediocre because these 2 towers will be historic and pivotal for Brooklyn's future, architecturally speaking. . .

This will be great. We've been waiting a long long time . .
Hopefully we'll get a tall signature tower to define the Brooklyn skyline.
one that will have some shape and distinction . .
and not look too much like the 125 Greenwich pencilbox . . .
But any significant bump would be appreciated.

THE FUTURE OF BROOKLYN: More than 22,000 new apartments will be built in borough before 2019

Katherine Clarke

The future of Brooklyn looks tall.

Developers are expected to build 22,000 new condo and rental apartments in Brooklyn through 2019, permanently transforming the borough’s skyline with high-rise towers, according to a new report issued by listings website CityRealty, which also published an artist’s renderings of what the new Brooklyn will look like once this slew of projects is complete.

Most of those apartments will be in Downtown Brooklyn, where 6,400 units are being constructed, and in Williamsburg, where 4,300 units are in the pipeline.

29-37 41st Avenue and 340 Flatbush Avenue making outer boroughs(s) history.

Some of the tallest outside of Manhattan. One Court Square was a start, and soon it will be dethroned.

WOW!

That rendering of the Brooklyn skyline! ! ! It really shows the transformation full circle. I just hope Stern gives BK a classic and iconic Supertall. It will indeed dominate the Brooklyn sky so it has to be remarkable.

Im speechless and excited for the skyline in the works!

For number data, and other figures: http://www.cityrealty.com/nyc/market...ht-report/1281

Its a pdf, but if you download it, and go to page 4, 5, and 6, you'll see tons of developments and renderings with info for those numbers.

Wow this is going to be crazy. Soon there will be 5 distinct skylines in one area. With Lower Manhattan, Midtown, Jersey City, LIC, and Downtown Brooklyn. LIC DoBro and JC are all developing some very exciting projects.

Check Out These Insane Views From Brooklyn’s First 1,000+ Foot Tower

Check Out These Insane Views From Brooklyn’s First 1,000+ Foot Tower

Seeing the boroughs from sky-high heights is nothing new thanks to all the supertall towers in Manhattan, but it’s not as common to have a panoramic view of our main island, which is why we had to share this video. JDS Development posted the short clip on their Instagram stream yesterday that shows potential views from their upcoming mixed-use skyscraper planned for Downtown Brooklyn using air rights from the Dime Savings Bank site. If constructed as intended, it will be the first 1,000+ foot tower outside of Manhattan. The nine-second video, whose camera height seems nearly eye-level to the 1,368-foot roof of One World Trade Center, depicts far-reaching, panoramic views to the west and northwest over Manhattan and beyond.

1,200' would be a gift. Hell, even a solid 1000' would be historical. Hopefully they are taking advantage of the market and aim high. This is not the time to be playing games. Go tall, and with a great design to attract the best talent and services (hotel + commercial). Mixed-used in this city is a win-win. With a waterfall of endless demand on the residential side, a city that publicly acknowledges its need for good office space, and even hotels, not aiming high would be foolish.

Be bullish!
