I heard some freinds tell me they were yelled at by security in front of the building for taking pictures.

You may not be able to take pictures if you're on their property, but if you're on public property (ie, sidewalk across the street) you should be fine. You also shouldn't hang around in one place for too long (like over 30 minutes), espeically if you have a tripod. If you're just taking pictures as an amateur you should be fine.

A boring, generic throwback to the '80s. They not only robbed the country, but didn't even have the decency to use the loot to build something awesome.

^^ GS may be boring, but it fits perfectly with the WFC imo. and believe me there are far far worse "filler" (actually gap closure) towers in NY than this.

What companies were building towers with curved, all glass facades in the 80s?

The only criticism I have of this tower is that hugely lame crown lighting.

If that's the interior then that's amazing.

I wouldn't call it boring, but I agree, it certainly blends well with the WFC. It's a welcome addition to that part of Manhattan and fits in perfectly.

The bulkiness is just too much for me with this building. I read somewhere that this building was designed to be dull on purpose so it wouldn't become a terrorist target, so I guess I understand why it looks the way it does. From most angles the building appears very sharp and modern (Looks absolutely beautiful from Ground Zero). However when viewed from Jersey, I almost prefer the skyline without it. It's a tad overweight. I have nothing against bulky buildings, Chase Manhattan and One New York Plaza look fantastic in the Lower Manhattan skyline, but Goldman Sachs just comes off a little awkward in my opinion. The height is one factor, had it been a tad taller it wouldn't come off so bulky. It's so close in height with 3 WFC and 7WTC that it makes the whole trio look stubby, especially 3WFC. The facade also doesn't really help, it looks awfully cheap doesn't it? Imagine it clad in all glass like 4WTC, I'm sure the building would have blended in much more gracefully into the skyline.

I'm not sure if they are still planning to tear down the adjacent Embassy Suites Hotel, but if they do, I hope they build a tower that blocks most of Goldman Sachs from the west.

And seriously, what's with all the lights at night? It still looks like it's under construction!

Just my two cents.

^^ Just be patient and wait until the whole WTC is built. The GSHQ will blend in perfectly.

^ And with all the ADDED bulk of 4 'supertalls', I don't think anyone will have a problem with GS.

Yeah. You just have to imagine this building as a part of the context in which it was designed; it's a compliment to the WTC and WFC. The whole thing will look spectacular when it's done.
