Miami skyline at night

I got a tripod as a gift, so I decided to use it tonight. Here are my first shots of the city skyline at night. I hope you enjoy them. Feedback is welcomed. I hope to do more soon.

Pretty good for your first try. I've been trying some night shots and sometimes it's hard to focus.
Does your camera have auto-focus?

Here's something that I do now. Point your camera at an area you want in the picture that has enough contrast and try to focus, then keeping your finger pressed half way, bring the camera back into position and take the picture.

I put it on the night setting and on infinity focus. I noticed that some of the shots came out blury, even on the tripod. Anything else I can try? Should I just leave it on the auto focus?

I don't like my camera's night shot setting so I just use auto or manual or another option. Your camera is taking the picture right after you press the button? Does your camera have a timer or anti-shake lock that kicks in after you press the button? Use the timer if you have one so that you can snap for the picture and the camera can go still before it takes the picture.

It does have the anti-shake. I can also try pressing the button halfway. It focuses then. After that I can probably take the shot and it could come out fine. I guess I just have to play with it.

Miami has had downtown lighting for as long as I remember. What pictures are you looking at?

Very good, I like them. One thing you can do is ramp up the exposure time. Looks like you are using maybe 4 seconds, you can try 6 or 7. Having them come out brighter than it looked in person isn't always a bad thing. Make sure wind isnt moving it even the slightest amount and make sure its not taking the picture when your finger is on the button, use timer and autofocus as suggested. Looks like flash is off so you're good there. I like the shots tho bro, I like.

Great pics! What night were you out in that location? The-New-Tony-Detroit and I were there last Monday night (New Years Day) photographing the city. Thought we'd try the port since there was no indication of heightened security, but soon found out that was not the case.

Atlanta has more lights than Miami anyday

To say that Miami has more lights than Atlanta is crazy. Atlanta has dramatic lit tops on our buildings which are mostly office. And Miami has poor lit condos which makes up the bulk of your skyline, big differences. But hey, maybe you Miami forumers can come to Atlanta one day and we can show you how to light up your city.
