Los Angeles Fire

Well the fire was getting damn close and I was thinking we were going to have to evacuate as it started coming down Mt. Lukens (we live at the base), but in the last 10 minutes (since downloading these pictures) the wind picked up and started moving this massive fire away from us. Hopefully that will be as close as this fire gets to us. Wind isn't good for the fire but right now it is keeping the smoke and flames away. Here are some pictures I took from my window and in my townhome complex:

From the bedroom window:

Out in the complex:

Flames appear at the top of Mt. Lukens and start coming down:

Right about this time a steady wind (I am sure generated from the fire) came from behind me and blew up the mountain starting to push the fire back up and away:

Yeah, it's a scary thing when you can see it on the nearest ridgeline. We've had our fair share for awhile up here in Santa Barbara in the last two years...hopefully it doesn't come down the slope.

I was down in LA on Friday night and you could see the glow pretty good coming down the 101 from Calabassas.

Yikes. Glad you dodged it. Scary stuff when even with a mountain between you and the fire and it still looks huge.

I can't imagine this monster coming down the mountainside at me.
Stay safe. Do you have your clothes and valuables packed and ready to flee if you have too?

No tripod so this was the best I could do. From the townhome complex Tuesday night this is Mt. Lukens burning, which is the same mountain shown in the daytime pictures above:

That is really close. Scary stuff. Some of the pics kind of look like lava flowing down the mountain. Stay safe man.
