Glad this particular thread is here,as even mentioning them in the 1WTC thread gets your post removed,it seems. But......now that i know this thread exists,i guess i'll post here.
While it's nice to see something iconic going up at the site now and yes it is nice,to me,there will NEVER be anything that will replace those 2 fat,"in your face" towers. I don't hate the new 1WTC but,i'm sorry, they should have been re-built as was, perhaps 1 story taller. There,i finally said it. Shit they didn't even have to be the worlds tallest. Thats never been a bone of contention for me. I just miss the sight of them going up the Turnpike and don't particularly like hearing people badmouth them as having been monuments to banality.

Agreed. But 1 WTC is kind of a advanced version of the Twins. But then again, if I had a say in the redevelopment, I would chose to rebuild the towers we lost.

While there is no hope of seeing Twin Towers at the World Trade Center anymore there is hope that they can be built somewhere else visible in New York City. I would like to see them rise in Hoboken, or Jersey City, or even Brooklyn.

Yeah screw Jersey City. Twin Towers there would look out of place and wouldn't fit well with the Jersey City Skyline since the Twins originated in New York and plus there aren't many tall buildings in Jersey City. They only belong at the WTC Site but we aren't getting that.

Agree with both you guys. The Twin Towers were and will always be an icon of New York. There is nothing that will change that. They might as well never reappear in any skyline again then to rise in other city. With that, here's the Modern Marvels episode documenting the original WTC right before 9/11. It repeats itself through.

^ I love that Modern Marvels episode, and Eric Darton's passion and knowledge is amazing.

Sadly DeMartini died rescuing people. While people went down he went up to rescue them. He died when the tower collapsed on him and his friend. They were still rescuing people when the North Tower collapsed on them. Ironically he was the only person inside the tower to predict that the towers would collapse when he saw the status of the core of the building. He warned the emergency services when he saw that. He also asked for an engineer but one never came.

I would say the same thing. There's something about them no other skyscraper I've seen has. It's just the large dominant way they stood in the skyline which made them iconic.

A driveby that took place within a few months before 9/11.

According to the caption, this was taken on September 5, 2001. My 24th birthday, and six days before the New York skyline and the world was changed forever.

Each tower's upper core were able to carry on an antenna, but only the North Tower ever got one. Good thing too, or those outdoor observation views would have never existed.

From the PC version of Max Payne, released July 2001. The towers were removed from the PS2 and Xbox ports (which were released in December 2001).
