An article from Curbed from late 2016 shows liner units on the sides facing 53rd and Cornell. It seems the side facing the Metra tracks will not have liner units, which is fine to.

The podium looks fine to me

Also, our city is not very conducive to building underground parking efficiently. Also I'd rather avoid having to park in a basement where I might get carbon monoxide poisoning lol

Better podiums are the answer, not their removal. It's a free 100 feet for building heights

Yikes. This is perhaps the worst argument in favor of parking podiums that I've heard yet and that's saying something. This particular podium is also one of the worst I've seen. I know everyone is entitled to their opinions but....

I'm fine with above ground parking it if the podium is wrapped in residential units and/or with commercial development. Looking up to a second floor that is occupied by people as opposed to cars greatly enhances the pedestrian experience and appearance of the building.

I very much don't disagree with the height boost, but it definitely needs to be done right.

I'd like to see black brick podiums used more frequently. Especially for larger scale podiums with black brick like LPT.

Does this 3/20/18 Curbed article show a more up-to-date rendering:

I remember a few people commenting on how the podium for The Landmark West Loop wasn't completely atrocious. Does that count?

Not that I think it's amazing but State & Chestnut tower is not super wide. Yes it's a visible podium but you can't really tell while you're walking on the street due to the design continuing up and also the ground floor spaces/arcade is decent. Parking entrance is hidden on Chestnut and the design on the podium is the same pretty much as the rest of the tower where you couldn't tell it's parking. Also almost all of the ground floor is taken up by either the lobby, the restaurant there, etc.

50 E Chestnut right around the corner kind of has the same thing going on:

I really dont see why more building just dont use glass all the way through like trump. Visually easy transition from parking to living. Not as easy for shorter buildings but why isn't glass used more? My guess would be cost or possibly ventilation? Idk.

^When you cant tell there is a parking podium is when you know it is done well..lol.. Anyone who designs a building with parking at the base should (like some of the examples above) make every effort to mask the podium so that its indistinguishable from the outside of building.
