If it isn't allowed to have illuminated crown because four seasons didn't want it to have it illuminated, then why should four seasons be allowed to have an illuminated crown? Couldn't 1144 insist four seasons not illuminate its crown? Or is there a double standard?

LOOK: Colfax’s new rec center is finally ready for you

The Carla Madison Recreation Center, which has been in the works for more than a decade, finally earned a ribbon cutting on Monday afternoon. The four-story, 67,000-square-foot castle of swimming pools, barbells and shiny wooden floors is now open to facilitate your recreation.
And people came from far and wide to hear Deputy Mayor Happy Haynes introduce this fabulous amenity for East Denver.

Always nice to visit a project's completion. More pics at Denverite and Dominic Garcia has some nice coverage at CBS4 Denver.

A race to the bottom so that nothing is illuminated? I agree with the double standard, but Hines really needs to reconsider this misguided concession they made to appease a few residents in Four Seasons. How can any developer be proud of how an iconic building that captivated Denver during its construction actually turned out to be a dud in the nighttime skyline?

Also, the impact of the side lighting in the notches will be mitigated since it essentially blends in with the randomly lit office windows at night. The side lighting just looks like interior office window lights. Maybe they should have used a different color like blue or purple, or better yet the ability to rotate through color cycles and change colors based on season, holidays, and sporting events.

Hines needs to fix this for the sake of following through with the iconic statement they wanted to make in our skyline. Light the damn crown!

I think the crown of 1144 could be lit in blue and it would look amazing while still not being a harsh white that could be aggravating to a few people in the 4S upper floors. The crown doesn’t even have to be lit all night.

I demand it also say QWEST and serve as a calibration locator for ISS experiments.

I, too, feel that this building should cater to my personal preferences.

I spent a semester abroad in Shanghai, China in 2010. Out there, all of the non-aircraft warning lights would turn off at 10 pm. It seems that that solution could have worked here. I am in no position to make Hines cater to my will but I definitely would have preferred the nighttime look of 1144 with an illuminated crown. Even if they continued that track light along the upper rim of the crown, that would have been pretty cool. Oh well.

I sent an email in March 2017 to James Roupp, Vice President of JLL (one of the developers on the project) asking what, if any, nighttime lighting features we could expect on the building. This was his response:

Hi Luke,

Originally, the top two floors were planned to be illuminated.

I am not sure if this is still the case…
Additionally, there are plan for vertical lights along the curtain wall running from the ground up.

Delivery of the Building is scheduled for 2/1/18.

We’ll know for sure then.
Thanks!
Jamie

In a long forum history of nit-picking, whiny complaints about Denver architecture, this is by far the dumbest and most petty.

lol... 'Tis true - I can't wait for the day we finally get a new tallest and someone complains that it is a few feet shorter than some arbitrary building in some arbitrary place.

Well. When this finally happens, the building will undoubtedly be beige. And there will be widespread forum uproar. And we will have to face the great existential question - can a 90-story building even be "Colotecture"?

I find it odd that 4S residents feel it's worth their time to stop external/crown lighting on a building when they could spend a couple dollars on blackout curtains.

More townhomes coming to Jeff Park, and another windfall profit for longtime property owner. Bought in 1996 for $70,500 and just sold for $1.05 million (0.2 acre property with a crappy 852 SF house). Nearly $1 million profit in 22 years! And some people don't think we're in a real estate bubble..
