Which, based on the elevation of ground floor and the top of the structure, yields a building height of ~422ft?

Yes, thanks. I'd seen them before, but I wanted some JPEG images to make them easier to view.

And I was measuring the building from the top (891' 3'' ASL) to the grade level which is 468' 0''.

The 422 foot number is measuring it to it's ground floor height. I think that height includes the ground floor slab.

I like to use the grade level elevation for measuring building heights since it's possible to actually stand on that surface outside of the building and view the building. Also grade elevations can change from one side of the property to the other. So if you're viewing the building from the lower elevation side of the property, the building will appear taller.

Amid apartment boom, work starts on 36-story tower
Endeavor/Lynd project latest to launch in multifamily wave

By Shonda Novak
American-Statesman Staff

In the latest sign of the ongoing apartment building boom in Central Texas, developers broke ground this week on a 36-story tower that will add 358 luxury units downtown when it opens in 2014.

The apartment market has been the strongest sector of the region’s real estate market for some time, spurred by demand from the region’s job and population growth and a lag in supply as financing for projects dried up during the recession.

Charles Heimsath, the firm’s president, said recently that the demand for apartments downtown is “extraordinary,” noting that downtown units were 97 percent occupied, and at rents that are more than twice the city average. The average rent downtown is $2,257 a month, Heimsath said .

So with this one starting construction, does anybody have a number for the amount of high-rises that broke ground this year?

I'm working on a list. So far 2011 and 2012 are tied with 5 highrise construction starts each. I would guess there were bigger years during the 80s, though.

2008 was probably the most impressive since that's when The Austonian, W Hotel & Residences and Four Seasons broke ground.

And you could say there are two more highrises started in West Campus in 2012.

2400 Nueces started in 2011 while Callaway House did in 2012.

Is it possible to get a list of the projects that started those two years? Thanks.

Yes, I'm still working on that. I'm trying to figure out how to get JPEG image files from an Open Office spreadsheet without having to have multiple images. Since the lists are long it's making it difficult to get it to fit on the screen so that I can get a screen shot of it.

I'll post it in that thread when I get it figured out. I was looking through a few of my books last night of old skyline photos with construction in them trying to determine the construction dates.

Gables Residential Tower and the crane for 3Eleven Bowie. I only got three photos before my battery died. I loved the way the sky looked yesterday.

2nd tower crane went up last week. They don't seem tall enough and I didn't see a climbing frame on either one.

It would be a real slap in the face to forget your climbing frame.

I would put a remote control on the crane, build a cage and lift myself to the top and bypass climbing all those steps all together.
