Wow! That's looking better than I expected. Welcome to the big time, Edmonton. You've finally outgrown whatever it was that was holding you back. (Suburbanization?) Even though you have far fewer buildings than Calgary, your skyline might actually be more dramatic. Tabletops like Calgary and Regina, Edmonton (prior) and Winnipeg are weird. Why would everyone want to build at the same height, or just a few feet higher?

(And I thought superimposed moons were left behind in abandoned vans from the 70's)... Ha ha! Cheers! And congrats on a great-looking urban landscape!

Fantastic shots as always, Ian.

Up until 2013 Edmonton had strict height restrictions due to the nearby Edmonton City Centre Airport aka Blatchford Field aka YXD which prevented anything taller than 150m aka Epcor Tower. Once it shut down the city had no official height limit hence why the boom in high-rises.

Also helps that Edmonton is the second youngest city in Canada along with Calgary and its the richest per capita in both GDP and disposable income coupled with a relatively cheap real estate market compared other Canadian cities never mind globally...

From the short list I compiled there are about a half dozen projects in the works that we know of that will pop through that 150m mark with another half dozen in the rumour mill so this won't be the last you'll hear of Edmonton, believe me

They are turning out way nicer than I expected from the renderings, the impact on the skyline is first class.

Stantec reminds me of Brookfield Place in Calgary, the height of course gets a big thumbs up but architecturally? Not so much. While it's not quite as boring and featureless as Brookfield, it's close.

Does that steel put Stantec above BP and little old Edmonton above not only Calgary, but all of Canada outside of Toronto?
