Hey vanman, it is just an opinion on the aesthetics. I am not calling your twin sister ugly so maybe it would be more constructive to show me a picture of the hidden side.. All I am saying is from the picture we see, the copper addition and the dated-looking cap seems arbitrary and somewhat unplanned.

from that angle it would look out of place... but the copper roof ties in quite well actually with the rest of the building. it comes all the way down to the street..

Massive Party at Dundas Square this weekend. Whislter you better stay away ..1 American Idol (Catherine McSucks) will be there, and 1 Canadian Idol. ( Evil Avia)

Thanks for the amazing update!!!

1. Those shots of the foundation are amazing.
2. Sp!re is ridiculously good.
3. RCM & 22 are very handsome buildings
4. Seems like its taking a long time for the Elevator scafolding to come off MET
5. Marriot is not too bad. Very nice and simple. I actually like it a lot.
6. The starting price point at Hazelton is 2 Million I think????
7. I thought the owner of Sazzafraz had given up.....but it's nice to see he is rebuilding.
8. What are the Demolition crews on the East side of the BA site up to?
9. The crane is finally off West-1 ...seems like this one is also taking forever to finish off.
10. Stern/St. Thomas is a fine addition to Yorkville.

Construction has begun on 180 Kent street in Ottawa. (19 storey blue box)I'm lucky enough to be right across the street from all the non-stop drilling. Looks like this summer is going to be a noisy one, especially when they start dropping dynamite charges and my windows start to rattle..

Whistler, you have put us all to shame with that outstanding update.. many thanks. I am disappointed that Planet Kensington is turning into a chainstore bakery. I read about it and it sounds pretty suburban.

Do you know the name of the Bakery? I'd love to contact the owner and buy the Planet Kesignton Sign and hang it as art on my wall. I'm actually surprised none of the punks have climbed up theer at night to steal it. Plantes been closed now for two weeks.

I'll miss watching the Z-Rays play there on Saturday afternoons with $2.50 stubbies, glad to find out they now play a block from me at the Smiling Budah. R.I.P Planet Kensington.

I think it is "Cobbs" or a name something like that. The article I read said it was a pretty dreary run of the mill bakery chain from Vancouver, I believe. I'm getting a mental image of dreaded, leaden wholewheat croissants made with nourishing non transfat canola oil but I don't really know. Try googling it.

Cool pix, Whistler and thanks for including Planet Kensington in the Development updates!

Cobbs went in across the street last November, I used to know the name but can't think of it right now.

Here are a couple pics taken a day or two ago by Delirium that he posted in the Vancouver Construction thread. The first image is of the Shangri-La and the second is one of the towers of the Spectrum development. Based on floor count, I think the height of the Shangri-La is now almost 1/3 of its final height, or at least 30%.

^ The Shangri-la in Vancouver has been virtually sold out for quite a long time now. So since the developer (Westbank) is building both projects in both Vancouver and Toronto with the same names, why not utilise that prime advertising space.

If the ShangriLa sold well, are there any plans for another high end hotel to be built in Vancouver?
