But again, it's better than the parking lot that had been there for decades. Density happens in stages.

I agree wholeheartedly, although a small part of me still wishes this building had been six storeys rather than four.

if I had my choice I would love to swap one of the tannery buildings with this one and put the hyatt on vaughn harvey. I'd like to see more living spaces in that area of town.

But honestly years ago this wouldnt even have been a dilemna to have. We would have been excited to have any type of new development downtown. I do like that they went with the L shape to cover more of the space and hid the parking behind the building

Rant all you want about lost opportunities of height. You are only looking at this from one perspective.

I appreciate the view from Assumption where the lower profile of the Hyatt allows the Crown Plaza to create depth.

If and when Aquilini Development decides to do something with their Crowne Plaza block, will residential units be in their plans? They certainly have a good portfolio of residential properties. With Tannery place already having a "waiting list" is seems like the market is there.

Me too. This property is going to be worth millions in assessment value to the city. WE do not know what discussions took place between the city and Corey Craig. If the city wanted A project that was worth a certain value and covered most of the parcel this may have been the most efficient way ton build. I have no way of knowing what was said, but I suspect this was the best project for this parcel.

There were a lot of workers on the Hyatt site when I drove by this morning, including brick layers working on the western facade. I've also seen them working in the evenings on week days when I drive by, which is usually around 7:00 PM.

Seems like not much of an update here since several weeks ago. As someone else mentioned a few pages back, this project seems like it's starting to take forever. Example: the hotel car canopy still not even started, except for a few pillars.

I know the hotel isn't scheduled to open for another nine months, but the pace on this project does indeed seem glacial.

I thought we were supposed to have an announcement regarding the included restaurant by October? Hopefully we will find out this month.

Another perspective of the Hyatt Place Hotel, found in a CBC article from today, presumably taken from the Crowne Plaza.

I believe all the exterior brickwork is complete. The windows are mostly installed. The remaining fascia needs to be applied, as well as the covered portico over the main entrance. Aside from this, except for curbing and landscaping, all additional work will be on the inside.

Still no word as to what the "signature" restaurant will be............

I was looking at the Corey Craig website and there was a recent and brief update about the Hyatt Place hotel. They mentioned that much of their work is now happening on the interior of the building. Still planning for early 2020 opening. New dining and retail options coming, but still no word on what specifically.

Not much change on the outside, but lots going on in the inside.

Still no word on the "signature" restaurant - I'm getting impatient.........

Well I’m starting to think there is no signature restaurant, which is why there has been no announcements.

They are making pretty good progress on the facade on the East End of the building. The silver/greyish material looks quite similar to what they used on the Federal Government building across the street.

They have installed the canopy covering the main entrance at the Hyatt Place Hotel.

I will add a picture to the post when I get home from work later this evening.

Hyatt Place Hotel opening confirmed as June 2020 (T&T article).

Still no word on the restaurant. I expect we should know in the next couple of months.

Quote from the T&T story re the restaurant:

"O'Neill hinted that it is part of a franchise chain and the first of it's kind in Canada."

They must be waiting closer to the hotel opening so the announcement has more impact.
