I didn't quite get the evil-bear-in-an-ice-cliff imagery but I loved the animation style.

EDIT: My 4000th post!

There was a tent city in the beginning and end of the threads... I guess that's representing what some are trying to do with 500 red tents in the DTES?

Ohhh, I see it now...it is a pretty cool video, but it's something I would have expected from the Americans and NOT the British.

BBC did something similar for Beijing:

Video Link

(note: the Beijing one is based on an actual Chinese myth called "Journey to the West": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_West ..... it's not some random monkey doing random things)

That's the weirdest take on the ancient Chinese tale, Journey to the West, I've ever seen

One can only wonder what BBC will come up with for London 2012, should they continue with this animation feature...

At least it's based on something. Vancouver neither has monsters, though I guess that could be representation of Quachi.... nor is in the ice age. If that's the case, we wouldn't worrying about having no snow would we.

Well, I would like to think part of the Vancouver one was based on some sort of First Nations/Inuit tale...particularly the last little part with the bear in ice. I mean, the BBC would have to be smoking something if they actually came up with that part. :p

I would have much preferred if they used the Haida Creation Myth as a plot (and it would also make a very good segment for the opening ceremony rather than some nonsensical abstract First Nations segment)....not to mention it's relevant to the west coast.

In the Myth, the raven swoops downs from the heavens to a giant clam shell in the murky waters and coaxes all the creatures out, including humanity. I'd also like to see Haida art come to life - with animals of legend and reality flying about the stadium, forming totems - bears, thunderbirds, eagles, wolves, orcas, etc.

And they can re-enact the Spirit of Haida Gwaii story. It has a profound meaning. All the creatures, including man, climb into the canoe and paddle off together into the horizon. They don't always get along, but they are tied together and have to find balance in order to survive. Thus, the canoe is the Earth and we're all in it.

At least our animated logo didn't cause epileptic seizures like London 2012 did when it first came out.

I have now heard 3 songs that claim to be the official theme of the 2010 winter games; "I believe" by Suzie "Nobody" McNeil?....SUCKS; "One Dream" by Sarah McGlaughlin...Not Bad...has potential to rock out in a gospel fashion; and the latest which I hope and pray is a hoax...Winter Games by some dude we have never heard of and inspired apparently by David Foster's "Winter Games" from 1988 Calgary. Please please please ...after all this work and money invested don't embarrass us all with this lame F*%&$^& tune with tacky F&$#*%&# lyrics.

I am a musician and I composed a song for the games but I did not submit it because Sarah's tune had been selected. OMFG...why didn't I do something.

IF this song "WINTER GAMES"...(check it out on youtube) is chosen I will be personally embarrassed and so should we all.

6 Billion dollars and we cant afford real talent? I would have been happier if David Foster had written yet another tired tune perhaps with Bocelli.

Maybe this can go here, too ? Some new stuff, particularly the NHK Japanese Olympic theme song for 2010 by, one of the most famous groups of all time, L'Arc-en-Ciel (yes what a name for a Japanese group, kind of cruel... in Japanese it is pronounced Raruku an Shieru).

NHK Japanese 2010 Winter Olympic Theme Song!!

Why did the Germans go to all the effort of doctoring the Vancouver skyline when it looks spectacular just as it is?

I did think it was a bit funny. It's probably never looked that Wintery since the last ice age Of course we didn't have the Shangri-la back then.

Germans will probably come to Vancouver with full winter wear and be surprised when everything is perfectly green...

The games will be available to nearly 5 billion people around the World. 3.7 billion watched Beijing 2008. Keeping in mind the broadcast rights for 2010 and 2012 were sold together, any Country which broadcasts the 2012 Summer Olympics in London has an obligation to broadcast 2010, for the first time. Hence why many Countries, such as the Philippines, are broadcasting the Winter Olympics for the very first time.

Traditionally, the Winter Olympics get less than 20% of the viewers of the Summer Olympics, but it has never been made so widely available before.

It is a new genius strategy by the IOC, and will likely continue for 2014 & 2016 and beyond.

wow...I never thought about it that way. And yes, 2014 and 2016 are being sold together.

NBC paid $800-million for 2010 during good economic times, but are now expected to lose $200-million from Vancouver. They will also be spending an additional $100-million just to broadcast the Games.

CTV paid $90-million for Vancouver 2010, and will be spending $45-million to broadcast the Games. But it will also be a money loser for them b/c of the economy, -$25-million.

Instead of digital-winterizing our buildings, they could have spent more at a better costume shop that has a more authentic-looking RCMP uniform.

The hat alone is WRONG in so many ways.
