Excellent Mike, summers are a blast here! When you're looking for a place, keep in mind that anything near the metro - green line in particular - will give you easy access to McGill. You can sometimes save a lot of money if you locate just a little ways away from the Plateau/McGill ghetto.

I'm honoured sensei! That lady was a hoot and her husband kept hitting his bottle of Bushmills every few minutes yet never showed any ill effects. Epic!

As for the lens: I'm using a Canon G 10 so I only have the one lens to worry about. With the abuse that I've put that camera through I'm surprised that it still functions. I've soaked it numerous times, dropped it on concrete, ice, snow. I toppled it lens-first onto a metro platform while attached to a tripod.. Great camera if you don't want to haul THE GEAR everywhere. The only major faults are the poor low light performance at anything over ISO 400, lack of HD video and a mic that becomes overwhelmed when you're too close to the sound source.

I've thought about that as well. I'm far from making a decision yet, but any input is appreciated. I'll probably ask around here and mtlurb in the future as well, but I think I know the city alright. I spent a lot of time in Montreal last summer (I was living in Quebec city for about five weeks and drove out there so on each end of that I spent some time in Montreal).

Wow where is this? Not the old port I don't think..

This new and old architectural design is quite beautiful. I love how they are so flawlessly joined together

Great pics of an area that has radically improved over the last 15 years, habfanman. Keep up the good work!

These pics were taken just west of the old port, in an area called "La Cité du Multimédia" or "le Faubourg des Récollets". It is roughly bordered by the Lachine Canal, Autoroute Bonaventure, rue Notre-Dame and rue McGill.

Thanks begrattto. It's a fascinating area that I more or less stumbled upon while exploring. My only criticism is that the western half is lacking in restos, shops etc. There isn't even a dep! I think that M-9 phase 2,3 will address that issue.

Do you know if the parking lots between William and St-Maurice are part of QI or le Faubourg? When they are redeveloped, it would be great if they were to continue the street grid by extending Queen and/or Prince straight through to St-Maurice. No superblocks!!

The rebuilding of Mcgill street is something the city really got right for a change, in fact the whole area that includes the Quartier Internationale,la cite du multimedia,le faubourg des recollets and old Montreal is probably the most scenic part of the city....now if only they can do something with St-Catherine street, which has become for the most part an eyesore and an embarrassment

Just wondering if anyone has pics of the Westmount area? I may be moving there in the coming month or two.
