St. Cloud, Minnesota (and a few of Albert Lea)

Ames, IA...getting warmed up
Mason City, IA - A little bit of FLR
Rochester, Minnesota - Home of the Mayo Clinic
Duluth, Minnesota - On Lake Superior's Western Edge
Superior, Wisconsin - Just Across the Bridge

As usual, I was on the move to get through as quick as I could. However, my reasons were different than usual. I spent
the morning taking pictures of the downtown area and the surrounding neighborhood, then spent a chunk of the afternoon
visiting a friend of mine who was staying at the VA hospital nearby.

St. Cloud is about 65 miles northwest of Minneapolis. The growing city has a population of around 66,000 people. St. Cloud State
University is a decent sized school, of around 17,000 students, that is just north of the downtown area, but due to time constraints,
I wasn't able to check it out.

Whenever I don't know where to begin, I usually try to find a parking garage. So that's where I start!!

After visiting my friend and then visiting the IKEA store, I decided to head back home. It was starting to get dark, but I didn't feel
like paying to stay another night somewhere, so I drove back to Kansas City. However, I decided to make one last stop, and hit
Albert Lea to fill up and grab a bite to eat. It was getting dark and I didn't think my camera would take great pictures, but I gave it a
shot anyway. I managed to get a few in about 15 minutes, but it wasn't enough to get its own thread.

Albert Lea has about 18,000 people. Hopefully someone can come back here and shoot a better thread. It looked to be a decent town

The courthouse, I believe. I had to take sever pictures. This was the best one I could come up with. It got dark fast.

And that ended my trip!! I hope you enjoyed!!

Alber Lea is an interesting town...not picured there, but it is built around Fountain lake...and has parkways and public park land all around the lake, similar to Mpls.

There is an Electric Fetus in Minneapolis too.

I came for the Albert Lea. Looks like a decent downtown.

Nice pictures! That courthouse in St. Cloud is strange. From the parking garage, it looks like a new urbanist design that just isn't quite right. But from the ground, you can tell that it's older (built in 1921 according to the inscription) and it looks much better.

St Cloud won't win many "most attractive city" awards, but they're really trying to energize their downtown. They've had a few successful renovations of older commercial buildings on St Germain (the main commercial street).
Your photo 0324 is of a new private dormitory for MSU-St Cloud students, with retail on the first floor. This is part of a larger planned development to connect the campus area to downtown (just south of the Electric Fetus music/accessories store).
They also have an actual department store in their downtown: Herberger's (it helps that this is also the HQ for Herbergers (unless they've been bought out by someone else)).

Thanks for the tour!

I really wished I could have gotten there sooner, or I would have been able to get a little more, plus the lake. Oh well, hopefully someone can come in and do a little more.

Thanks for the comments so far!!

It looks so Minnesota. There are several buildings that I could've guessed the state without seeing the thread title.

Very nice. Reminds me of Massachusetts. Minnesota is one of my favorite states. Very classy.
