Fredericksburg, VA - Lots-O-Pics & History

I spent an afternoon in Fredericksburg in October. Of course I'm just now posting (me being old and lazy). The city was founded in 1724, has a population of about 25,000, and is part of the DC Metro. It's 50 miles south of DC on I-95 and about 60 miles north of Richmond. There is a ton of historic stuff there. I took the trolley tour to get familiarized (expensive but a ton of good info). I'll forego comments. Lots of pics though.

Here goes:

Wow, Fredericksburg looks great! Fredericksburg looks like a cousin to some of the other great old towns in the area, like Alexandria, Annapolis, and New Castle. I've always thought about driving past the DC area and exploring a little of Virginia, and Fredericksburg has seemed like a convenient place to try it. Now I'll have to go there if I get a chance, after seeing what it's like.

Virginia towns are so well kept, at least every one I was in. My old company had an office location there that they originally wanted, but I turned it down for the one in Reading, PA................

Nice town. It's weird how these major Civil War sites are getting encroached on by the sprawl of DC.

Great work, Ithacan!! Don't think I've ever seen a Fredericksburg thread on SSP before. I know very little about it, except of it's Civil War history. Thanks for bringing it to light!!

Thanks fellas. Fredericksburg is worth the visit. As Thundertubs noted, the sprawl outside the city is maddening, but some wonderful architecture, and plenty of historical sights can keep one busy for quite a while.
