Development news is usually slow this time of year, so this is what we get in the meantime. The Statesman is reporting that the Fairmont must be close to opening because they have hired a beverage manager.

Here's the happy new Fairmont beverage manager:

Good Lord, that was my comment I deleted prior to your post. I posted the Monty Python video, I'm a lumberjack, but thought someone might be offended so I deleted it. Great minds think alike

Man, if everyone on the internet were as nice as you, the world would be a better place.

My brother and our friends used to sing the song. British comedy is the best.

We used to watch Friends back in the day and I remember the episode where Ross was arguing with everyone about the color of his sweater or something...everyone was saying it was pink and he just kept yelling back, "It's SALMON!!"

I'll be honest, I see in about 16 colors. Beyond that it's light or dark [color]. This kills my wife, but this is why we complement each other so well. She picks stuff out, tells me where to hang it up, and I do so. Our place looks great with all of her color choices. Just don't ask me what they are.

Aaaannndd......back to the Fairmont.

The opening still seems to be on track for mid-February. Here's a video of the CC sky bridge connection:

I've heard from a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend that has an unnamed source that said the people at Fairmont have given up waiting for the big L to open so they are gonna blow up the place and build a huge parking garage.

Joking aside, their website still says opening early 2018, I wonder if the date will get pushed back again. Even though I don't exactly love the design of the building, I still like it and can't wait for it to open and see what it brings to Austin.

The first available date to reserve a room as of yesterday is the last day of SXSW - 03/18. I suspect they are sold out for SXSW which is why no rooms are available during those dates. But it also appears they missed the 02/15 opening because I doubt they would be sold out from 02/15 up to the start of SXSW.

Dang, I wonder if the flooding problem is still holding them up. In all reality, who knows what the problem is now.

They have for sure lost a lot of money being delayed for so long.

Well they have staff, I saw some day before yesterday outside on break. Looks like the outside areas are being cleaned up like the sidewalks and such. It may not be much longer before we hear something.

My main complaint at the moment is they need to light up that blank spot where the mechanical roof blocks part of the screen from the north. Granted the most important views (and I'm being quite honest and frank here) of the skyline is to the south but when your driving on 35 from the northside coming into DT, that gap is more than just a little annoying, it's embarrassing. If I developed that hotel (I'd have built it taller) but I would also not allow such a gap blemish the building's night lighting from the north even if the south facing side is the "money shot side" if I may use that analogy.

Yes! Every time I drive into downtown from the north now, I get irritated because I see this dark spot on the top of the Fairmont.
