whoa! that's a priceless shot there! I've never actually seen the underground storefront before. i wish they could somehow incorporate those into the design of the new shops going in. that's very cool.

I wish they would use those bricks for something in the project. I think it would add character.

Mentioning the old storew fronts, I think an awesome project for DT would be to make an Underground Sacramento District just like Underground Atlanta. I love the shops and restaurants and clubs.
That would take a BOLD vision, which I feel Sacramento doesn't have...yet!
If city officials want something to draw people DT, this would be one of them!

Damn, that sounds pretty awesome. I bet you could get a lot of people in Sacramento behind something like that too. I couldn't even imagine the $$$ involved though.

They're starting a tour. But, it's nothing like Underground Atlanta. You know, for as sprawly as it is, I love Atlanta!

Natomas East/Gateway Tower
One twelve story office tower at 198 feet with 331,970 total sf.

In the planning/development stage on parcel two, next to Natomas Park Drive,
a 15 story hotel/condo with 200 guest rooms and 24 condos could rise and
would also be 198 feet tall.

I LOVE THE PARKING LOT!!!!
I guess Natomas is going to start looking like Irvine.... Now there's a world class city!
How close is this project to the proposed DNA line?

DNA will be about half mile to the east... and I don't think Natomas is tring to become
a world class city, downtown is where the focus is right now.

This is evident by the amount of hostility from the Natomas neighborhood groups whenever there's a community meeting about the proposed DNA line. Northgate in the perfect corridor for the rail line and all the neighborhoods there can do is gripe and complain about how much the DNA will lower their standard of living... like 15 acre parking lots help... Just goes to show the mentality of people who knowingly buy and build $500K homes in former rice fields.

As part of the deal for this Natomas East tower & hotel, the Dept. of
Transportation will expand I-5 to 10 lanes plus auxiliary lane expanstion
at the W. El Camino Blvd. as part of Cal Trans I-5 Transporation Concept Report.

dude, that would be hella awesome! it would add another thing to do in the 'what to do in sac' list. if underground shops dont work, you could always use that space for like maybe adding an undergroud lightrail or streetcar! that would be kinda cool..

DNA proposed to run north on Truxel...not Northgate

Just wanted to clarify that...would be somewhat of an advantage to have the line run up Northgate...it's a blighted corridor of run down strip malls..car washes
and liquor stores....but the Truxel alignment into N Natomas makes more sense from a ridership standpoint.

I know DT is where the focus is.
I am in no way saying Natomas is becoming a world class city. It's not even a city!
What I said was Irvine! WOW! What a world class city... NOT! (ala Borat).
Guess that one flew over your head!

Honestly, if they are going to build more towers in Natomas, then put in lots of apartments and condos, and places to eat and cut down on the parking spaces. Put a trolley system in there to get around and link it to the DNA line where ever and when ever they build it. Oh yeah, I for got... it's Sac! (Don't get me wrong, I love Sac, just don't carefor the people who run it.)

Well, I kinda got you

The bullet point in a letter sent by the Department of Transportation said.

- Adequate setbacks are needed to allow an ultimate 10-lane freeway plus
Auxiliary lane expansion and the West El Camino Interchange and on the
I-5 mainline, as described in the Caltrans I-5 Transportation Concept Report.

Neuhickman, that was an attempt by me at some SSP.com humor

Hey Phoenix is probablly one of the most sprawly cities I've ever been too, and even they are starting to put in a light rail system in parts of the city that needs it, and adding more density, walkable communities, Sac is sprawly but not like phoenix, I watched a report on discovery or read somewhere that for its lower population phoenix is one of the most spread out cities in america, even worse than L.A, when i visit my friend there it can take over an hour to get to one side of the city, without traffic!!!
