WGN Radio, one of Chicago’s leading radio stations, interviewed Marshall Strabala, Chief Architect of Shanghai Tower on the live “Bill Moller Show” (Oct. 25, 2014). During the 15-minute interview, Strabala told listeners about the Shanghai Tower’s double-wall, and that the form of the revolutionary building follows its function. Strabala is one of few architects who has designed three of the world’s tallest buildings. Listen to the informative interview at: http://wgnradio.com/2014/10/25/the-a...shall-strabala

To learn more about Strabala, who has worked on the design of Shanghai Tower for more than eight years, visit his official Flickr site at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/architectural-design/ or the website for his company, 2DEFINE Architecture, at: http://www.define-arch.com

Of course, you don't have to like it, but stating that it is very bland?????? (which BTW, seems one of the favorite adjectives in this and SSC forums, every time I read it, is like )

The forms of the building are simple yet powerful, in contrast with Jin Mao, that looks like it's trying to hard, IMO. This one is also pretty elegant with all the slightly curved shapes (and I don't usually care about curved buildings)
It also has that double skin feature, I don't remember another building that have that, in the way this building has it. If the spaces created between the two layers aren't impressive, I don't know what it is...

I saw the video just recently and I couldn't believe it... I was dizzy just in my chair... My stomach hurts just to see the video...I know I wouldn't dare to that even with the security equipment the workers use, and those guys did that just holding with their hands to the handrail...

The guy is standing at the VERY TOP of the crane!!!! with absolutely nothing to hold him, but seven-hundred meters of free falling...

Shanghai Tower Facts -- Did you know?…

Everything about the Tower was designed with sustainability in mind. Even, the Shanghai Tower’s elevators generate power when they run.

The developer of Shanghai Tower originally intended the building to be the world’s tallest structure.

High winds were more of a concern taken into account in the building’s revolutionary design -- not earthquakes.

That the Tower’s special amenity floors featuring restaurants and shops can help eliminate more than 1 million elevator trips per year, saving a lot of energy.

Learn this and more in this new interview with Shanghai Tower Chief Architect Marshall Strabala at:

Neat, that's the first pic I've seen in between the curtain walls. One disappointment for me; I was hoping some of the inner façade was "open air" to the outside façade. I thought that would create a cool and unique atmosphere, especially among restaurant type layouts.

Awesome! It looks like an alien mothership upended, which you don't see everyday in architecture and decorative lighting.

hands down, china leads earth regarding skyscrapers and skylines. i love this tower skyline, and city. its hard to argue about skylines when your city is compared to something like this behemoth of wonderful steel, concrete, and glass. makes my home city, (Calgary), look like the skinny kid on the beach as compared to the hulk. lol i know. what a dumb comparison. but a true one.
