That building is great, both in size, form and interiors in great original condition. Needs a scrub outside and a plaza sculpture though.

I wouldn't like that at all. When viewed from Yaletown, or from Granville/Cambie bridge, the table top strip would look absolutely ghastly. At the moment, VGH's Jim Patterson Pavillion and a couple of buildings built in the 60s-70s are making the skyline there look tolerable.

Yeah, not a good idea. People will get attached to the temporary park, and when it's time to build the real park, guess who'll be standing in front of the bulldozers? Probably going to get the anti-demolition crowd in on it too.

Sorry to sound negative, but everything in the park will be vandalized (logs with graffiti, etc) or damaged beyond repair in no time.

We used to have another nice park nearby: just at the end of the Georgia viaducts, and now it is full of litter, needles and tents.

Why can't this city enforce bylaws to protect and preserve what's built using tax payer's money?

That's not really a park though, just a grass field that nobody goes except the homeless and junkies.

The NEFC park will be popular with regular people during the day, so we'll see how bad it gets.

As for sand, there's sand at the new-ish kids playground near Science World, and it has stayed needle free as far as I know, hope this stays the same.

FTR I saw a bum cleaning up some needles yesterday. It was a big mess though, not sure if it was his or somebody else's. I have such little respect for people who leave their garbage of any time laying around.

I think you got it backward. It is an unnamed park that most residents don't go to because of all the homeless and junkies. Same thing for Andy Livingston and Victory Square.

I have all the respect for a bum cleaning up after other people, and pretty much the only people I give my change to. But for those that litter out of habit, I'm with you.

The fields at Livingston are busy all hours. Try going to Victory Square during weekdays, it's full of people eating lunch and taking coffee breaks (weather dependent of course).

What's the appeal of that small park anyway? What does one do there? Sun tan?

Isn't that park at the end of the viaducts about to become the location for more "temporary" shelters? I wonder if any trees will be removed. Too bad sharps aren't magnetic so they could be easier to remove. Perhaps manufactures could put a strong piece of magnetic material inside the plastic part. The things are a nightmare all over the planet. I've come across hundreds of them buried & forgotten in Stanley Park, it's just sad...& dangerous. They don't exactly decompose. And they don't belong out in our natural environment.
