This is my fav of all the NYC supertalls going up. But definitely wish it was taller as it gets lost from my vantage point during my layover at Newark airport.

This is what Central Park Tower should have been. Burden and the CPC had it backwards. They froze the design in place, but decreased the height. They should have required it to be taller. If this tower had come just a few years later, I think the outcome would have been different.

But even 1,250 ft wouldn't be enough.

No, it wouldn't. Given 3 1400'+ and one 1550' tower in the vicinity, I'd say that given its tapering design, it would need to be scaled to at least 1800' (and with the original exposed cross bracing because interior space wouldn't be an issue like it is with the truncated version) to really stand out and dominate like it deserves to.

But having said that, might as well go for the FAA limit of 2000'.

It is true, this magnificent futuristic skyscraper should have dominated the skyline. So 2000 feet would have been perfect (given the height of what is built around it).

A very nice, and somewhat rare perspective in post #3731. The impact is dramatic and really goes to show how much the skyline has evolved with just a few super talls. The impact of these structures is profound, and with super talls, IMO, its not about numbers, but about quality and location. Location being the most important attribute with skyline alterations.

Its all just a matter of opinion. But the reality is that this tower is stunning.

When the overall majority, most likely 90+% think this tower is great AND one that has high approval from architectural committees and urban organizations, it means something.

If it was more like 50/50 where half like, half disapprove, one could make a case that this tower sucks or is subpar, but such is not the case.

If anything, a negative opinion is just an outlier that in a data set of almost unanimous approval, would be redundant, and throw away. So in a nutshell, the outlier opinion is nothing to debate, as its redundant basura.

Not to mention Art Deco was truly a French style. Arts Décoratifs. The style of the Chrysler Building and Rockefeller Plaza are a result of a school of architecture and design being championed in Paris at the time.

This tower really outclasses most of the residential towers going up in the city. This is how you do it Barnett. Get the right guys for the job. Now, if they can just get that scaffolding out of the way.

It's something I just discovered and find additionally beautiful about this tower that the final rows of glass on the sides of the tower core and the accompanying "zigs" seem to fade to transparent (?).

See Post #3736. pic #3.

I don’t want to jump the gun again, but is it safe to celebrate the topping out?

It's topped out. If I could climb it, you'd catch me on the news.

The cladding has really kept pace as this tower rose.

The cladding looks very good.
For such a complicated design, we are almost done.

I recall years back in awe over the construction of Bank of America at Bryant Park over the complexity of the design.

53W53 is stunning!

One step closer to finishing. 1st post of this thread was back in 2007 to get an idea of the time scale.
