Don't get too excited. Renderings (and models) can be deceiving. Remember - this is the architect who brought us NEMA.

Good point, but I have a lot more faith in Millennium than Crescent Heights.

i'm glad to see it's going to happen after everything, but looking at the pdf's i'm really disappointed that they scammed their way into maintaining the mission street underground parking ingress/curb cut. has no place there and the original 3rd street plan was as near to perfect as a non-zero parking proposal could get. today, that ingress is already a big issue with automobile pedestrian conflict, it'll only be worse with that museum and a completed jessie square. so aggravating. if this were to be build just five years later, i doubt the city would have allowed the change, but here we are.

also disappointing is that so much ground floor space in the aronson building will be given over to the mexican museum. unless that gift shop will be open late, that space will be effectively deactivated at night, not what we need there.

since we're talking about shadows...

1. yerba buena gardens is not owned or controlled by the rec+park department, so the shadow ordinance doesn't apply.
2. shadows in SF *do* get cast in a slightly southerly direction in the early morning and late evening of the summer, so projects on the "north" side of parks do have issues, even considering that the ordinance excludes the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset.
3. the SOMA street grid is rotated almost 45 degrees, so this project technically does cast shadows on the open space for the center for the arts, but not any part of the traditional outdoor open space of YBG. again, per #1, not a planning code issues. they are disclosed in the EIR and have to be considered as an environmental impact, but they can be approved even if deemed significant.
4. the NIMBYs who opposed this project in the four seasons are the most transparent and despicable hypocrites in the real estate community. some of them are active real estate agents and advise developers who build similar projects to this all around the city... unless it happens to be near the building they live in.

Update:
A yellow crane on site with a small loader. A blue Gradall by the left side entrance of the old building. Some drilling has started. I believe the site is still in its prep stage. More to come.

Earlier this week I saw a crew of people taking a look at the tiny art pieces inside of the park right next to that building. They're probably getting logistics finalized.

small update. so i talked with a couple workers on site last night and they told me that we're looking at internal demo for about another three months, then demo will begin on the parking structure. looks like my worst fears are to be realized: that mission street curb cut and parking ingress will remain. pisses me off so much, why do they need two ingresses for parking?? why didn't planning or the planning commission or jane kim just straight up prevent it?? yeah, we have a beautiful square and a new museum, just walk around the car idling on the sidewalk as he waits to turn onto mission street.

when i'm archon of san francisco, things will function quite a bit differently. my first order of business will be to feed the planning commissioners to the lions out at the zoo. and we'll force them (in chains) to take that excruciating muni ride out there to there too, so that they have a couple hours to ruminate before their doom.
