Interesting, never thought about that. If anything soaking the masonry with lime is probably good for it and probably fights efflorescence by immediately dissolving any salt crystals that do form.

False, the original panels look awesome and the slight fading that has occurred just makes them look matte black which is even cooler. It's like the instagram filter called time. There has never been a moment I've ever looked at either building and thought anything other than "wow, that's a very black building". I'm wholeheartedly against messing with the structures for preservation reasons, that's like saying "man we really need to strip the facade off the Reliance building because it's chipped and stained"... No sir, we do not need to do that.
