I sometimes do that in my sprawl and Germany threads. What I do is take a screenshot of one corner, then scroll the view over to another section of the image, and basically paste the different sections together. I can get a fulll-sized image with 6 screenshots.
Oh, dear. That sounds like some work.
That's what I had thought. I'll end up doing it anyway, though.
I was going through my archives and found more aerials to add to this thread (and now that this thread is on Page 2, they shouldn't take too long to download).
This is my all-time favorite aerial of Downtown Birmingham, especially because it really shows off the hills in the background (and the fall colors are great too):

Here's a better view of the Red Mountain Cut:

Here are some historic Birmingham aerials:

And here are some great black & white aerials from the Library of Congress collection I found online a while back:

Rickwood Field (and Legion Field in first aerial) with skyline in the distance

Well hidy ho, that was some kind of fun. I'm gonna have to check back every once in a while to look through again and take it all in (if I missed anything). I had a heck of a time driving on a flyover of the big Interstate interchange downtown. A big truck in the lane next to me blew off a tire, and it flew back and smacked the car next to me BAM. Scared the bejeebuz out of me. And then a ways further (near the airport) the police had a lane blocked off where a car had overturned. Ahhh, good times.
I was there the winter before the Vulcan was reopened, so I couldn't go up in it (even though i told them I knew Randy Sandford ).
Thanks for all the work Randy, I'll have to check out part 2 soon.

Glad you enjoyed the pics, Tom! I can't believe they didn't grant you access to Vulcan when you mentioned my name (LOL). Was that flying tire incident something that just happened today where you live or something that happened when you visited Birmingham?
Glad you enjoyed the pics, ikcyzrteip! Birmingham does have quite an extensive street grid, but personally if the entire city and metro area were gridded, I would find it very monotonous and boring. That's how I feel when I visit my relatives in Dallas.
Tom, when you mentioned flyover ramps earlier, I realized I didn't post an aerial of the othe major interchage in Downtown Birmingham--the I-20/59 junction with the Red Mountain Expressway (US 31/280):
Very nice. These websites are going to put me out of business!
I look forward to getting back out to Birmingham. Last time I was there, it's been a while, we stayed at some hotel that was atached to a mall. There was also an office tower I think. I don't think I see that area in any of those photos.
Glad you enjoyed the pics, KCgridlock! I don't think you have anything to worry about. The quality of your photos is much better than what's available at maps.live.com. I look forward to your return to Birmingham and the aerial shots that hopefully will follow. BTW, the hotel you stayed at is the Wynfrey Hotel which is attached to the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover. It appears in Part 2 of this series which covers Birmingham's southern metro area.
