I always suspected Silverstein had an extra hand up his sleeve...

The FT is beautiful, IMO, and deserves the attention it will garner for its height. I know its fashionable in some quarters to pick on the spire, but it will in my estimation be the most successful built in the city since the ESB's mast.
This spire will surprise a lot of people also.

It all depends on the facade. If its anything like BoA or Goldman, it may not surprise a lot of people...

It won't look like either of those (the surprise would be if it did). From what I understand, it will appear coser to something like this:

Tower 4, also known by its street address, 150 Greenwich Street, will face directly onto the World Trade Center (WTC) Memorial Park from the west. Rising 975 feet, it will be the fourth-tallest skyscraper on the WTC site. Designed by Maki and Associates, the 64-story tower is intended to assume a quiet but dignified presence at the site while also serving to enliven the immediate urban environment as part of the redevelopment efforts of downtown New York.

The building's façades will be clad in floor–to–ceiling windows utilizing composite glass with multiple layers of coatings intended to achieve a mat metallic quality with a luminous sheen. This will give the tower an abstract quality – minimal, light, cool in color, and ephemeral, changing with the light of day.

The building's first five floors will house retail space, and the remaining 56 floors will be filled with offices, totalling 2.3 million rentable square feet. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the City of New York will occupy two-thirds of the office space, and Silverstein Properties will retain the rest for commercial tenants.

All 4 towers are beautiful, but my favorite is still WTC 2 (200 Greenwich Street.)

That would be a good way to raise money fot the rebuilding and the memorial, selling minaturized versions of the new WTC. If only someone could put it together, it would be way better than those silly WTC coins.

- As long as they don't claim they're plated with silver found in the original WTC wreckage

... OR!! Get this! One bill-like proof that I saw was so tacky that it had "9" and "11" on opposite sides of the board, so they add up to 20!! HA!! Get it?

I saw that.

The engraving of the new WTC on that thing is so inaccurate it makes me wince everytime I see it.

Word. I'm so glad we can have all four of them. Could you imagine if we had to pick only one to be built?

The WTC site is usally just associated with the Freedom Tower, while people forget the whole site will be made up of 3 other towers, not including WTC 5 and 7.

It seems like there are conflicting heights for the spire of this building. Emporis has it at 1,255 ft and SSP Diagram has it at 1,240 ft.
Anyone know which is the right height?

As tall as these buildings are going to be, 15 feet seems like a very little difference.
