Milan is probably the most vibrant city of Italy. Even if its not as beautiful as Rome or Florence, it's beautiful enough and I think it is the closest to New York you get of all Italian cities.

it's very interesting to me that milan wasn't built on a navigable body of water, like madrid. these pictures show that it is still a cosmopolitan and world class city regardless, even without being centered around a lake or river. excellent photos!

Well, I've never been there yet. The more I see it in pictures, the more I obviously disagree on the so agreed fact that it wouldn't be worthy of the most historic cities here and there, especially in Italy. It's just more contemporary, thus more ambitious in that respect. It's about time for the local economy to really shine, huh? That would be good for my country.... What's the name of that prime minister who's making some noise around here to the French ears?... Ah yeah, Mr Renzi. In fact, crazy Ferraris and the prestige of luxury ain't enough. When Fiat does much better than Volkswagen (that's actually kinda crappy, huh, no matter how German it is), we're good.

i hate to categorize milan, and turin, as working cities, implying that other italian cities are not, but, milan and turin are among the most industrial cities in europe...therefore, their economies are not nearly as dependent on tourism as the others. so the impressions one might get, when comparing them to the others, is that they are boring, with ugly postwar architecture, etc...when really, they are the modern leaders, a continuation, of the italian tradition...plus, what they lack in architectural charm, they make up with the alps and lake como...

Nice pics.

I like Italy. A lot. But I appreciate that Milan is an antidote to the rest of the country.

After endless days of being pushed by tourists in a line to see yet another Renaissance rendition of the Virgin Mary with Child, it was very encouraging to eat sushi in half empty restaurants and explore a modern city with clean, functioning amenities.

I only visited for about two days (three years ago), but shortly after relatives living in Milan contacted me on Facebook. I'm hoping to visit again in September or October.
