Toronto's TD complex is as much the Model T of skyscrapers as you are the Queen of England.

Irrespective, I will agree that they represent an important architectural milestone in history, and history is important even now.

Thanks. I didn't know what that was. Perhaps they are famous in Toronto.

Yeah - I don't doubt that. They were fantastic 40-50 years ago (and I've said as much), but if those were proposed today, you'd be on them like the next guy.

Somebody is a little bitter. In the architectural world the TD Centre is known as Mies largest and final endeavor. Just because you don't know that doesn't make his work in Toronto any less famous. Just like his Gas station in Montreal is famous and you don't even need to be a Montrealer to know that. Well you might need to be one.

You're right, they were fantastic 40-50 years ago, and they still are today. I highly recommend next time you're in a city with a Mies building you get up close and personal with it to see how close to perfection it is and how the attention to detail is played out in the smallest details. If you think they are just black boxes then you really know nothing about his work.

Having an opinion is one thing, being completely ignorant is another.

You should watch this, clearly you need to learn a thing or two about Mies van der Rohe.

I didn't claim that it was (though it's pretty hard to overstate Mies' impact on modern architecture). I was simply making an analogy to show the basic flaw in your essential claim that because something is old and outdated that it is not meritorious.

My point is that the TD Centre most definitely belongs in any discussion concerning Canada's greatest skyscrapers.

Ramako, you should watch that documentary. It's done by the BBC. When they discuss and show the Seagram Building it best reflects the TD towers. No other skyscrapers I can think of have the openness on the ground floors likes his do.

Aura was taller than Ten York even without the three extra floors. Anyway, I seriously doubt that they would make such a decision based on anything other than business reasons.

Aura was taller, but they had the same number of floors. Guess these reporters don't take skyscrapers as seriously as we do.

Uninstructed views of downtown?

I'm sure someone will give the views the proper instructions before the building is completed.

Aura will not only expand to 985 units, thanks to the additional floors, but will have four storeys of retail. That will be the first stacked retail outside of the Eaton Centre, with more to come in a dozen or so new condo projects planned for Toronto’s main street.
Maybe they meant first stacked retail in the coming condos on Yonge Street?

Seeing the Sunlife like that back these days must of been an impressive sight for a city where a building over 10 floors was rare enough.

There's only one missing from that middle shot, 2 smaller buildings in the top image, and most of what you see in the bottom image still exists except for some of the homes.
