Texas triangle - this is the area bordered by I-35 to the west, I-45 to the east and I-10 to the south. It includes the metros of DFW, Houston, San Antonio and Austin as well as a few other smaller metros. The 60,000 square mile area contains more than 75% of the state's population.

Having been born and reared in the RGV, you might want to include the McAllen Metro area in the coastline estimate. I know it doesn't look like it, but it's not uncommon for people to to commute from Brownsville to McAllen or Vice Versa. You can get from McAllen to Brownsville at any time of the day faster than you can get from South Austin to North Austin at Rush hour. ( I know, have to drive from South of Slaughter to Oak Knoll when I go to the office, and when I'm on the road working in the Valley I'm keenly aware of how much easier it is to get from one of the Valley to the other compared to crossing town)
