Just confirming...are you saying they are putting furniture, light fixtures, etc in the Jung and then changing it out afterwards?

Seems like it.

It's possible that a lot of the FF&E we saw in older photos was just cheap temporary stuff from hotel discount warehouse type places. That way the Jung could finish inspections and do a soft opening while the real FF&E was still on order. (The lead times for some of that stuff is killer)

Or maybe somebody like Joe Jaeger walked through and didn't like it, so he ordered it all changed out...

Either way, I agree that the new stuff is much better. It's still tasteless but at least it's on the same level as modern premier (non-boutique) hotels in Vegas, Miami, NY, Chicago, etc. Basically what you'd see in a W, Radisson Blu, SLS, etc. The old stuff was just embarrassing for a premier New Orleans hotel.

Does anyone know what’s going on with the new building that had been build for CC’s coffee on Canal? I noticed they no longer have the space available sign and they tore up a significant portion of the drive thru and parking lot and then repaved.

Its going to be a drive thru Praline Connection but Express version whatever that means... had to tear up cement because they didnt build it correctly first time with the correct amount of permeable surface...

I love the Fulton Street plan. The hotel tower is not a terrible concept - I get they have to propose it there because the zoning around them is for less density and height - but I'm torn. I wish they would build on a vacant lot nearby or where their ugly parking garage is. I believe the casino was designed to evoke an old opera house and a tower in the corner detracts from that form, however I do like density. Either way, I hope they streetscape the whole area and re-engage the sidewalk with some commercial activity in the area.

Ditto.

I support Harrah's efforts, but the tower, in its current massing and location does not contribute positively to downtown or the streetscape. It feels suburban.

(For what its worth, neither does Harrahs )

A really cool idea would be a traffic circle at the foot of Canal and the front of the new hotel forming part of the curve for the circle. And use the existing tunnel underneath Canal Street to connect the casino/hotel to Canal Place.

I know everyone has their own taste with regard to building designs. I personally do agree this is very suburban looking. I would like to see a little more glass and modernization to the exterior. It's definitely a safe design that the city won't bark at.

To be clear, the style of the tower isn't my concern, its how its placed on the site. Being at a 45 degree angle, compared to every other building downtown, the tower looks out of place.

From an operations stand point, it makes sense to locate the tower at the current portico and 45 degree angle, less disruption to their current operations during construction. However, the existing building loses its front entrance, and it appears awkward in the renderings.

I'd be happy if the tower were located on the corner of Poydras and South Peters and more integrated within the existing mass of Harrah's instead of tacked on the front.

I wonder what the hotel lobby's reaction will be? The article states Harrah's is often overbooked and turns customers away to other properties.

Harrah's

Harrah's casino itself is set at a stupid angle already and is proportionally really weird when viewed from above (wish the rivergate was still there). that being said I really don't hate this, I'm just curious where they'll move the whole valet/front parking situation. I think the street grid down there is so weird I already I kind of like the building not being lined up with Poydras or canal, the building also is angled so it will have unobstructed views of the river which is kind of cool. I think having a tower there across from the four seasons when it opens, will be really transformative for that stretch.

I don't like the placement of it either. It does look a bit awkward. I would like to see a more angled building of sorts. Kind of like the Marriott Marquis in San Diego. I think that would make much more of an entrance for the property than a random tower.

I'm all for the project but not a fan of the design. It looks like they just took a generic casino hotel from Shreveport and dropped it on Canal Street.

they could improve the design a bit buts its certainly limited in what they can do since its on top an existing casino... Its a bit gaudy but thats harrahs casino already... im excited for all the development around the casino and fulton... also this hotel explains the filmore theatre plans.. it always had entrance to hotel and i just thought that was misprint... now i know its night... also kept hearing NOBU was doing a restaurant and rooftop pool type thing on top the casino and that just never made sense... well does now... also I think its safe to say where Gordon Ramsays place is going now too

I wonder why they didn't make a proper bar on the roof. It looks like a beach style cabana bar.
