I was just about to do a post grousing about the fact that there is no evidence of any site prep yet next to the casino where the IHOP is going to be built, when I came across a fresh job posting for an assistant manager for IHOP on indeed.com.

https://ca.indeed.com/jobs?q=Restaur...0004a403245ec6

I guess things must still be on schedule. I wonder when they will begin site prep. It must be soon.........

I noticed that the Maple Leaf Seafood restaurant underwent some work last week to remove all signage and the inside also looks empty. The for sale sign is gone but it doesn't show as sold on PAOL.

This location is turning into one of those cursed restaurants that just can't stay open... I imagine it doesn't help that they can park maybe 18-20 cars but yet the inside had room for probably 80-100 occupants (in addition to staff, etc.)

Edit: As of last night it has new signage up for 'Oriens' I believe, which appears to be yet another Chinese restaurant. Let's see if this one lasts longer than 6 months

Indeed - Oriens Modern Asian Cuisine. I've lost track of how many restaurants have been in that location over the last 10 years.........

I caught a W5 rerun last weekend about immigration, does NB have a similar program to the one on PEI? That may make this post controversial so if so do remove it but this made me wonder if they don't open these restaurants to obtain their citizenship and from there they move to more desirable provinces (which compared to NB is uh... possibly all of them). I know my wife worked on PEI and her company had received money for taking on an international partner manager who paid a significant sum of money, got his citizenship and from where the company benefited (could receive up to 200k) but yet they never once saw their benefactor.

I noticed they tore down the building that was in front of Parlour Pawn on Mountain Road. Anybody know what’s going on there?

It was next to the laundromat, immediately in front of parlour pawn. I think it was an apartment building. It may not have been recently tore down, but since I live in Sussex now, I never noticed until I was at Pizza Delight for Father’s Day.

Ah, right.

I honestly can't remember it being taken down. I went on Google Street View, and the image they have on file was from last summer when that section of Mountain Road was being torn up. The building was missing then too.

I wonder if it wasn't demolished about the same time. I avoided Mountain Road during it's deconstruction, and anything could have happened at that time and I wouldn't have been aware of it.

There was a very old 12(?) unit apt building in front of the Parlour that was torn down last year. It's now being used as extra parking.

Here a Street View image from Sept 2018:

If that's September 2018, it must have been literally days before it's demolition as it was missing on the Street View image that I saw........

No loss anyway.........

Remember you can see some of the older street views if they are available. Just click on "Street View - October 2018" tag if there is a clock with counter clockwise arrows available and it will show you a timeline with older street views.

The location in question. There used to be a small 2 story building there that is gone now. (Though the ghost of its foundation is still on the Google Maps view and the building itself is still on Sat view).

New information kiosk at the Wharf Village Shops for Magnetic Hill:

Nice retro vibe from this one - they certainly put some effort into the design!

New Arctic Wolf enclosure at the Magnetic Hill Zoo:

Another nice upgrade for the zoo. This apparently triples the amount of space they had before, gives zoo goers more viewing options and apparently cost $200k.

Both images from mayor Dawn Arnold's Facebook page.

Us old timers will recognize that information kiosk as a knock-off of the facade of the original Magnetic Hill welcome building and restaurant that Mrs. Lutes, the original owner of Magnetic Hill, owned and operated in the '50s and '60s.
Very well done and nice tribute to the woman and her vision.
EDIT: And immediately after typing that, I learned that the kiosk has all the info on Magnetic Hill's "Lutes era." DOH! I didn't even realize it was specifically about that lol.

Since when does the city make common sense decisions like this one?
