I need your help!

I'm organizing a four-day UBC conference next year for a few hundred delegates, and I'm trying to get discounts at local restaurants for our delegates. I only have a few restaurants in mind, just wondering if any of you had others.

The requirements for the restaurants:

1) Within 10 to 15-minute walking distance of the Sheraton Wall Centre

2) Quality food and service

3) Price range: Dinner (max. $25); Lunch (max. $15)

4) Large restaurants with seats (e.g. Milestones)

5) Clean, modern venues (good impression for both the conference and city....many will be from out of province)

So far, I only have these in mind:

- Milestones (Robson, Yaletown)
- Cactus Club (Robson, Yaletown, future Bentall 5)
- Earls (Paramount, Robson)
- Shabusen (Burrard)

depending on how 'vancouver' you want to make it, i'd suggest guu on thurlow. great food, fairly low prices, fairly big space and i bet you might even be able to get some kind of special menu set up if you reserved well in advance.

Not sure if it's a option, by maybe you'd be better off having the Sheraton arrange the food, especially if you have space booked there. The time saved from not having to walk somewhere could be used for more socializing, small group discussions.

Relish is right across the street. I havent been there on a "normal" night and ordered off menu, but have been there for several events (whole space can be booked) and the food was always good.

Sala Thai fits that perfectly. It's about 2-3 blocks further down Burrard (near Robson)

I'd go with Shabusen, if you can get the space. Hard to beat their all you can eat menu for $20-ish, and there is something for everyone. Meat, sushi, noodles, soup, etc.

Go try Joeys on Broadway & Robson, but I'm not too sure about the prices. Phone the restaurant for that information. It's pretty big and service is pretty nice. Great interiors too.

So far, I have:

- Milestones (2 downtown locations)
- Cactus Club (3 downtown locations)
- Earls (2 downtown locations)
- Shabusen
- Guu
- Sala Thai
- Joeys
- Relish

Of course, I'll only select a few of these restaurants so that the sponsorship (through discount) value of the deal won't be diluted.

Dont' go to guu trust me. Over rated. I thought it was japanese but it turned out I was having more korean... Wasn't happy with the service either (but that was the richmond location). The food isn't THAT GREAT for the price.

It's pretty loud because the ppl yell orders out loud in the restaurant to the sushi chefs and kitchen staff.

Lumiere's Tasting Bar has a special for this month $40 for 3 course menu. It is out of your budget but it is a great price for a really nice restaurant. It is also on West Broadway.

Thanks, but we won't be looking at any locations outside of downtown.

this prolly won't fit the criteria of a large restaurant (in fact it's tiny) but Bin941 is a fantastic little restaurant on Davie that serves up little tapas at an economical price. downside - no reservations.

No worries, I'll be surveying all of these restaurants in the summer to see if they are suitable.

Not to mention that I'll also be selling out the event to corporate sponsors. The BMO Douglas Ballroom! The Starbucks Terrier Lounge! etc.

How about Floata chinese restaurant in China town which is part of downtown in my opinion. The food there is not bad and also inexpensive.

From Sheraton to Chinatown is a pretty long walk, and we don't expect out of towners or any delegates to take transit. (if only we could get free transit passes from Translink)

Our aim is to get restaurants that are in the vicinity of Sheraton on our side.
