That area will definitely look modern if and when these projects finish.

We don't want to start the "build one skyscraper, take one away" game.
I know they had hinted in the past of doing an office building in the range of six to fourteen stories in place of the hotel component at one time (before ServiceMaster chose Peabody Place), but that had always been based on demand. Whatever version of the office component we get in the expanding project probably won't be as large or as tall compared to the hotel and apartment portions. Will there be anything else added? Who knows? We'll have to see what the final plans look like.

But that's just my $0.02.

Now don't even think about touching Sterrick.
I would much rather re-skin the whole thing from the ground level to the garage on up. The fact that the previous owners basically allowed 100 North Main to deteriorate into the current state it's in should be a cautionary tale of what happens when you give property to an entity with such a shady track record as they had. Hopefully, with the tower now under receivership by the courts, we'll get something rather than nothing down the road.

The Sterick is a nice looking building, and I would hope it too gets redeveloped in the future. While we're talking about it, I would like to see the exterior get restored to its original colors of white/off-white/grey with a metal roof in green. That's not to say the current color scheme is bad, but I think it would stand out better that way.

One problem with 100 NM was the lack of a modern interior. While it's true that Downtown's office market isn't what it used to be, no company wants to move into an outdated space.

I would love to see the original colors back on the Sterick too. If they were to recolor it white and green, it would match the Linclon American Tower.

"St. Jude's 'cranes in the sky' promise Pinch District development"-Michelle Corbet/Memphis Business Journal, 11/21/16

"After a nearly year-long planning process, the City of Memphis and Shelby County governments are expected to present a final vision for the Pinch District on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

At the third and final public meeting, to be held at the Balinese Ballroom, stakeholders are anticipated to discuss better connectivity between Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid, the proposed $7 billion expansion and investment by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and ALSAC and the pending renovation of the Memphis Cook Convention Center."

"Working with architects Looney Ricks Kiss (LRK), the City of Memphis' Division of Housing and Community Development (HCD), the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Planning Development and the Downtown Memphis Commission (DMC) have proposed concepts for mixed-use development of up to 12 stories.

McGowen said attendees at the meeting can expect to see renderings of the types and styles of development the city would like to see to create a walkable, vibrant neighborhood.

“We’ll also talk about the riverfront and Mud Island — how those create a ‘bicentennial gateway,’” McGowen said.

With the city of Memphis turning 200 years old in 2019, McGowen is using the term ‘bicenntennial gateway’ to position the revitalized Pinch District as a new entrance to the city.

“With 40 million people coming into Memphis, there’s an opportunity to create a gateway that will make people want to stop and see Memphis,” McGowen said"

U of M to get major boost from home rule
Memphis Biz Journal

Quote:
For years, Memphians have grumbled that the local university was regularly overlooked by the public school’s governing board — and they may have been right on many occasions... The U of M has a lot of big plans for growth and expansion over the next 10 years, and having local leadership at the top will be a huge boon going forward.

...Binghampton commercial center
Meagan Nichols, Reporter/ Memphis Business Journal

Quote:
More than a decade in the making, the Binghampton Development Corp. (BDC) – the organization behind the project – was approved for the first-ever Community Builder payment-in-lieu of-taxes (PILOT) in October 2015 by the Economic Development Growth Engine for Memphis & Shelby County. The Community Builder PILOT is specifically for “nonprofit and for-profit entities in urban revitalization.” The BDC received a 15-year Community Builder PILOT. Save-A-Lot will be the anchor tenant of the 48,500-square-foot development. Additional retail space is also planned. The total capital investment is projected to hit $6.8 million.

Loeb, Boyle, Highwoods plan to make Poplar more pedestrian-friendly
Meagan Nichols, Reporter/ Memphis Business Journal

Quote:
A pedestrian-friendly Poplar Avenue may seem like an oxymoron — or even an impossibility — but it won't be if a new business group has its way. Boyle Investment Co., Highwoods Properties Inc. and Loeb Properties Inc., which each own property along the Poplar Corridor, have teamed up to form the Shady Grove/Ridgeway Business Owners Association (BOA). The group's mission is to make the area more walkable and aesthetically pleasing.

The massive East Memphis 4-Stack (I-40/240 junction) is now open with the exception of the independent Summer Avenue exit. The difference is amazing with almost a quarter-million vehicles per day. It is 13 or 14 lanes-wide on its eastern approach.

The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) received initial approval from the Memphis City Council to issue $110 million in debt for two new projects. On Tuesday, Dec. 6, members of the council's budget committee approved a resolution authorizing the MSCAA to issue $110 million in revenue bonds. Four-Story 'Treble Clef' To Be Permanent Part Of Riverfront
By Bill Dries/ Memphis Daily News

Quote:
The boat from Davenport, Iowa, can hold 1,900 people and began its journey down river to the cobblestones 13 days ago. The boat has been stripped of all of its gambling equipment... In Davenport, the Treble Clef was known as the Rhythm City Casino for 15 years. Gambling ended on the Davenport waterfront earlier this year.
Memphis Riverboats will keep its presence at Beale Street Landing in addition to the new presence at the cobblestones.

Isn't it about time we here on the new plans for the Terminal B redo? Remember MEM announced that they were going to tweet their previous plans after Nashville's announcement.

Anyhoo, my wishlist going forward

Alaska Air to Seattle

Jet Blue to Boston

Southwest to Oakland or United to San Fran. Southwest flight would be cheaper, United with Asian connections, though.

American or Southwest to LAX

Allegiant to San Diego and Savannah

Norweigian to London Gatwick for seasonal once or twice weekly service for starters.

From what I've understood watching a news story recently about Air Canada's re-entry into MEM, the Airport Authority is supposed to release updated drawings and plans for the rebuild of Concourse B in about a couple of months. That's all I know at this point.

Neon rooster to wake up Downtown skyline
Michelle Corbet, Reporter/ Memphis Business Journal

Quote:
The Downtown Memphis Commission's (DMC) Design Review Board said "cock-a-doodle-do" to the Old Dominick Distillery’s 13-foot neon rooster. The Design Review Board approved the rooftop rooster after holding it during the organization's meeting in November to see if distillery owners Dominick Properties LLC could reach a compromise with their Rivercrest Condominium neighbors.
