I didn't end up going back and now it closed.
Oh i agree. It was virtually empty. The only people were what appeared to be University kids playing video games, did not appear to be the type to be spending much money. But it was $5 or $6 to get in and around $5 a beer.

And that's just not going to work. When South Pembina was hopping, even after minimum pricing, it was anywhere from free to $3/$4 cover (ladies often free) and much cheaper drinks.

I got the impression Reset didnt know what it wanted to be. It was dark, dingy. Had the lud techno music playing for no one...and I never felt overly..."welcome" or "safe" there.

My young cousins are just like bomberjet's, they don't smoke, they drink very little, they mainly like to hang out in small groups of friends or with significant others. They spend their share of money but on other things... eating out, movies, electronics. If a place opened up on Pembina Highway offering 25 cent draft I doubt it would even cross their minds to go.

Times change, man.
I worked in bars at the time and I remember my boss being supportive of minimum pricing because he felt it leveled the playing field between the big guys (like Canad) and the one off-owned bars. But I recall saying I thought it would hurt us...

We went from being lined up at 7PM to empty until 10PM. And when you cant entice the crowd with $1 drinks, you have to come up with new ways to give them deals (like reverse cover).

Even then, the LID, where I worked, was very busy until the end doing free cover for ladies, $2.50-$3 drinks. And we all made money. Any bar targeting the student crowd with $5 drinks isnt going to work.

And I sure hope our security staff was not nearly as miserable and unwelcoming as I see at most bars today (not that I go out often). Although, pat on the back to Cowboys staff who are always cool, even the bouncers.

Max’s Restaurant, will be opening to the public tomorrow, serving traditional Filipino cuisine. It’s a soft opening, hours are 11-7. Full hours take effect after their grand opening.

They're located at 1255 St. James, same lot as Tim Horton’s.

The Sherbrook Street Deli is back open.

Smaller menu. Shorter hours.

Very happy about this. I love their Corned Beef sandwich. A little pricey, but soooo good.

They’ve lowered their prices on the re-open.

^Very unexpected but positive development. Also unexpected was Jon Hochman taking over Gunn's Bakery. Perhaps running the two places will create some synergies (bread for the deli supplied by Gunn's, some deli products perhaps sold through Gunn's). In any event, I'm glad that there is a young entrepreneur continuing the tradition of kosher style food in Winnipeg. Hope it can work in the new improved format. Also glad to hear they will be on Skip and Ubereats.

The former location of "The Nook" has a sign out about "Cork and Flame" coming soon.

No more info yet sadly.

Which – Sherbrook or Portage? I LOVE the Sherbrook one, so that'd suck. Best club in the city.

Any idea as to where in City Place? With BP and Za already in Cityplace, it makes for a crowded pizza market. I looked at their website and it looks like carnival style food...has anyone here tried one of their other locations?

Skip had to shut down their service in Winnipeg this afternoon due to such high demand in volume. No one wants to go out in the cold.

That happened to us a few weekends ago. We couldn't order because they were temporarily closed due to high volume. A couple hours later it was back running.

The new Vietnamese place at Cityplace is now open. It is called Kai Pho. I tried it for lunch today and I liked the chicken pho. It is a pretty good sized portion for $10.50 and it contained a number of pieces of white meat chicken. I would go back.
