My young cousins are just like bomberjet's, they don't smoke, they drink very little, they mainly like to hang out in small groups of friends or with significant others. They spend their share of money but on other things... eating out, movies, electronics. If a place opened up on Pembina Highway offering 25 cent draft I doubt it would even cross their minds to go.
Times change, man.

I worked in bars at the time and I remember my boss being supportive of minimum pricing because he felt it leveled the playing field between the big guys (like Canad) and the one off-owned bars. But I recall saying I thought it would hurt us...
We went from being lined up at 7PM to empty until 10PM. And when you cant entice the crowd with $1 drinks, you have to come up with new ways to give them deals (like reverse cover).
Even then, the LID, where I worked, was very busy until the end doing free cover for ladies, $2.50-$3 drinks. And we all made money. Any bar targeting the student crowd with $5 drinks isnt going to work.
And I sure hope our security staff was not nearly as miserable and unwelcoming as I see at most bars today (not that I go out often). Although, pat on the back to Cowboys staff who are always cool, even the bouncers.
