The worlds highest sundial? On top of a building so only people in helicopters can see it?

My thoughts exactly... When I first read the title of the thread I thought they were building a hugh sundial, not a sun dial on top of a building... Nice looking building though.

The Sundial

Timeplace incorporates the world's lagest and highest sundial a majestic 158m
above the Marina, itself 40m in hight, the sundial's shadow falls across the
building cylindrical shape.Allowing the time to be see from miles away and from
everywhere within the Marina.

People in Dubai don't have watches or something? What a retarded idea.

Incorporating a sundial into a skyscraper is an awesome idea. I have longed to see it done.

But putting on on the top? That's about as stupid as you can get.

Why is it stupid? All you would have to do is look up at the side of the building to see what time it was by where the shadow fell - I beleive the "point" is that the building itself becomes the "clock" so to speak.

do people want to automatically hate Dubai? i think its a cool idea, and if you guys paid attention, you would have noticed that the shadow will fall on the building so you can see it from far away.

It's not Dubai in particular, people are just skeptical of tacky/stupid ideas. As it happens, Dubai simply comes up with a lot of them.

This is fairly stupid, but it will be hardly noticeable in dubai, more likely than not this will fall into obscurity and be part of the bulk of skyscrapers the city needs.

Where is this being built out of curiosity, is it gonna be surrounded by skyscrapers, would make me laugh if the worlds biggest sundial never saw the sun, and with all the 200m+ buildings going up in dubai this could prove to be a very very silly idea.

the sundial

How it is shown in this rendering, you can see the scale of the sundial on the facade.
So it is possible to see it from the street.

At first, i was skeptical too. But when you take a closer look to the renderings you understand how this sundial works.
I think it's a unique detail and a awesome idea.
