There is some work going on around/behind the big, black "Sears Tower" sign on the Wacker side of the building - it looks like they're getting ready to install another sign, with the "foundation" for it located behind the current sign.

Anna Kane, 5, of Alton, Ill. lays down on 'The Ledge,' the new glass balconies suspended 1,353 feet (412 meters) in the air and jut out 4 feet (1.22 meters) from the Sears Tower's 103rd floor Skydeck Wednesday, July 1, 2009 in Chicago. The Ledge will open to public on Thursday.

I have to say I'm not in favor of the name change of such an iconic building like the Sears Tower. I live in New York and I would be pissed off if they had decided to re-name the Empire State Building or Chrysler Building. Sears Tower is iconic just like the Empire State and Chrysler Building so changing the name and color of the glass would be an insult to Chicago and the people who have grown to love it over the last 35 years. If the World Trade Center was still around it would be an insult to change it's name. So far we have had a name change for the future Freedom Tower. Now it's called One World Trade Center which is a name I felt belonged to the North Tower and not the Freedom Tower. Then again all the buildings in the future complex will be 2, 3, and 4 World Trade Center just as the original did. I just think it's ridiculous to change the name of a famous landmark that people have been familar with for 35 years. It will always be Sears Tower in my eyes. Excuse my language but fuck Willis and it's fucking name. I hope to visit the Sears Tower and see the new ledge they installed up there it looks awesome.

I can't wait to go to chicago and go to the ledge.

As to the name change, as with many sport venues, people will still refer to the building by the original name.

^ On a more serious note, is there any zoning or other restriction against putting advertising on a rooftop (not visible from the street but something flat, parallel to the roof plane) ? I see a little bit of revenue potential from touting other tourist attractions (or anti-nausea pills) etc to Ledge visitors. Someone could even plant a green roof and spell out the message in rows of yellow tulips...

Edit: How bout this: "Fly Southwest Airlines - we promise no glass floors"

denizen, you may want to contact SW airlines. They'd pay you for that idea.
I dunno, but great line
