Just walked through SEC (Science and Engineering Complex) II on an unauthorized tour (well, the doors were unlocked and the AC is on inside...). It looks very nice in there. It's not a carbon copy of the interior of Shelby: the halls are wider and offices are definitely smaller. A coffee shop (like the one in Bidgood) is supposed to be in there somewhere (next to the freshman biology labs...Good job, UA!) but I didn't see them.

Just a couple of updates from the Tuscaloosa News

Groundwork on the amphitheater site continues close to on-schedule. The amphitheater is on track to open in the second half of 2010.

Groundwork on riverfront amphitheater nears completion

River Road Park East (not the same as River Road Park West) has been renamed by the UA Board of Trustees (since they own the park) as "The Park at Manderson Landing" (just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?). I think there are plans in the future to put in some upgrades to the park.

River Road Park renamed for UA donor

Northport is considering building a new city hall and abandoning the the Civic Center/City Hall they currently occupy at the corner of Main St./Hwy 43 and McFarland Boulevard/Hwy 82.

Northport City Hall’s future is uncertain

The Bank of Tuscaloosa Plaza is complete. Hunt Refining Co., the fourth floor tenant, moved in this week. All tenants (an accounting firm, Rosen Harwood law firm, and the Bank of Tuscaloosa) are expected to move in by mid-July.

Wouldn't this building have been super nice if it had been in the middle of downtown instead of down by itself on the riverwalk?

Coming along nicely. Im not an engineer or so excuse my terminology -- the concrete support thingys are finished at the bottom and they are now starting to add to them. The skybox's lower seats will be ready for the season, but thats it.

Just got back in town 30 minutes ago ...

* Best Buy to Midtown is good news, but should've gone in that space when Midtown opened.

* Shelby II tour sounds nice. Shelby III is supposed to open in 2011, and East Engineering and Houser Annex will be demolished to make room.

Inter-modal facility should be completed by September. Facility will include two retail spaces, of which one is being rented by a local restaurateur.

Work on downtown park is progressing. Should be done by March.

Intermodal facility could open in Sept.

This photo was taken by a Tuscaloosa News forum user.

The park will be on the block right beside the new parking deck.

The two blocks adjacent to University Blvd will be taken up by the courthouse and courtyard.

Looks like the Corp of Engineers will be moving their facilities to their new location sometime this year. This paves the way for the new farmer's market and new visitors' bureau office to built at the location. It looks like the Corp will still maintain an office at the riverwalk - a two-story structure.

I was so happy when this popped up on my feed. This provides a great opportunity to REALLY have a completely connected riverwalk.

When is University going to re-open? Getting downtown from UA is a mess now.

I heard on WVUA tonight that it is supposed to open on September 1st. It was pushed back a few weeks - obviously some store owners aren't too thrilled.

The Science and Engineering Complex Phase II has opened unofficially. They are already making preparations for Phase III.

Wow that's nice! That is certainly one of the first places I'm gonna visit, once I get some free time when I arrive on campus on August 9th

That SEC building looks awesome in that picture. I really love the brink insets & the white arches. Also love that harlequin grass pattern. Wonder if I could do that in a normal yard? What's going in the center of that circle? Looks like it's being prepped for something like a statue, flowerbed, or fountain.

What's going to be put in Lloyd? I remember reading something about that, but forgot. It says they're permanently removing the Chem. dept.

Anyone know if there are any plans to eventually replace the Biology building?

There likely aren't any. During exam week in the Spring, I was spending my nights at Farrah studying. While I was there, I was told that the Geography department is supposed to move into the Biology building. Seems like it's just a rumor, but it also seems very possible.
