Cancelled Calgary old Project Renderings

Hey, I've been wondering if any people out there have any renderings of the old cancelled calgary projects back in the 80's? There's a lot of new people in the forum who would love to see the old drawings of FCII and the second Canterra tower...

Hi, I guess you are new enough here that you may have missed some of the so-called "end of thread" parties that we have every 2000 or so posts (though, honestly, a lot of regular forumers miss those as well). One of these parties contained a bunch of renderings.

I'll repost what I have:

Alberta Plaza

Bay Park Plaza

Eaton Centre

First Canadian Centre II

McIntyre Building

?

Victoria Square

? (from the 90's)

Was that supposed to be built as another tower altogether or was FCII a secondary tower to the taller one? Because now the word seems to be that FCII will be a whole new plaza...
Thanks for the postings...

It was going to be a taller twin to the already existing tower at 3rd Street and 7th Avenue (you can see it in the rendering). It was partially built and cancelled (the planters in the plaza that exist right now are actually the tops of the foundations). The new design for the tower should be coming out sometime soon.

The rendering is looking West if you are a little disoriented...

Thanks for those pics Boris, what a taller skyline we would have. But then again we wouldn't have this opportunity now to put architecturally superior buildings ie:The Bow, FCCII. My favourite one in the last grouping would have to be the Eaton Centre, a very imposing tower but classy. The TD tower that is there now is very nice and one of my favourites, but the original looked to be quite taller.

Is it me or doesn't the victoria park project look like the Exchange massing and very similar design cues as Keynote but with the same materials of Sun Life Plaza sitting in Stampede Stations spot, and the 2 tower project with the ? beside it Lausanne/Montreux anybody.

For those who have never seen the book "Calgary The Boom Years" I recommend going to the central library, 4th floor. It's in the Local History room. The Bow plans are also there, well worth the trip.

This stuff is better IMO than anything currently planned, with the exception of a couple of projects!

What's that twin tower job! My God that thing is awsome! They're all pretty good! Taller than anything proposed also.

I think that twin project was somethign along the lines of "park centre" or somethign like that. I really like it too tho. It was supposed to go whter TCPL is right now. That woudl have made for a couple of really tall ones (petro and this one) I also really liked the eaton centre design. Does anyone know if bay park plaza was supposed to be built directly on the bay building?

Nah, the architecture in my mind isn't that good. Very, very tall some of them though.

They also have copies at other branch locations you can sign out. I, too was absolutely fascinated by this book. Very cool stuff.

Except that I think Gaglardi was the developer, and the other product he built in the 70s was, well... he's of Sandman fame. Take what you will from that.

Yes, where TCPL & James Short is now.

Bay Park Plaza would have been north of the existing Bay.
