Underground Atlanta to be Sold to WRS Inc.

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/n...a-big-day.html

Quote:
"Today marks another milestone" for Atlanta, Mayor Kasim Reed said Wednesday as he announced that the city had entered into an agreement to sell Underground Atlanta to WRS Inc., a real estate investment company based in South Carolina.
WRS will pay the city $25.75 million for 12 acres of downtown real estate, which the city will use to pay off the remaining debt on the property.
It also will cover the costs of buying out the 70-year sublease that existed on the property – a deal the city completed in March. That gave the city the flexibility to put the Underground Atlanta property out for bid as part of the mayor's strategy to rid the city of unneeded real estate. The mayor said the sale will save the city about $8 million a year.

It's so good to see that many cranes again... it's been a long time! When I first moved to Atlanta, Midtown was basically a blighted office park (no Midtown Mile, no Atlantic Station, etc). It's changing so quickly! Even just a couple years ago it was a ghost town at times, but I see so many more people walking around now. MARTA is packed. Stores that used to be empty are busy. With all the new construction it's going to start feeling more like an actual living city, and that will draw even more people in and make it even better. Gentrification has been a struggle but I think it's finally reaching critical mass

MARTA working on 10-acre Brookhaven/Oglethorpe redevelopment

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/r...glethorpe.html

Quote:
MARTA is planning to meet with developers on Jan. 19 as it ramps up efforts to redevelop 10-acre site at its Brookhaven/Oglethorpe transit station.
The transit authority has issued a Request for Qualifications to convert the large surface parking lot next to the station into a mixed-use development, including residential and retail space. A new Brookhaven city hall and library are also possible anchors of the project.

Hampton Inn (SE corner of West Peachtree and 15th Street)

New construction of a multi-story hotel – 152 rooms on 10 floors above 8 levels of

I'm curious to see how much of this corner this project consumes. It sounds as if it will have a really small footprint given that it has the same number of rooms as the Hyatt House downtown. The Hyatt House is seven stories while the Hampton will have 8 levels of parking alone.

Edit: From looking at the property records, the outlined area is the only part of that property owned by North Point Hospitality. I don't know if a hotel can even fit on that parcel alone so maybe they have a deal with Hines who owns the adjacent greenspace, or Marta who owns the parcel behind the brick building.

City Lights Project, A Boulevard 'Bright Spot,' Moves Forward

http://atlanta.curbed.com/archives/2...right-spot.php

Quote:
The first piece of a multi-phase project called "City Lights" has been green-lighted, with the expectation it will brighten up a long-vacant corner of Boulevard. Invest Atlanta has approved $7.5 million in tax-exempt bonds to finance 80 housing units for low-income, independent seniors in the Old Fourth Ward. Wingate Capital Partners — the owner and manager of Bedford Pine, the Southeast's largest Section 8 housing project — is leading the four-story development. It will rise at the corner of Boulevard and Angier Avenue, a lot that's been vacant since fire ravaged two apartment complexes there in 2005.

Exclamation NCR Corp. relocating to Midtown, bringing 3,500 to 4,000 jobs

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/r...-500-to-4.html

Quote:
Almost six years after moving its headquarters from Ohio to Georgia, financial technology company NCR Corp. is relocating again, this time to Midtown, bringing up to 3,500 to 4,000 jobs into the city.

NCR Corp. reported late Tuesday it will occupy a site at Centergy North at 8th and Spring streets, putting the company in the innovation district blossoming around Technology Square, anchored by Georgia Tech. NCR also plans to maintain a "significant" presence at a second campus in the northern suburbs.

The new campus in Midtown Atlanta will be ready in late 2017 or early 2018. The current site plan calls for a mix of 8- to 10-story buildings with up to 1.5 million square feet of office, hotel and potentially retail space to serve the city's booming startup community around Georgia Tech.

Worthing's next Westside project will be called Heights at Georgia Steel and is adjacent to the Atlanta waterworks on Huff Rd. Based on their planned timetable of opening next Summer, they would have to begin construction sometime this year.
