Was surprised when Calgary didn't make a move for McElhinney in the off-season. He's old, but so is Smith and he was an extremely serviceable backup capable of filling in for multiple-game stretches for the Leafs.

I watched part of the Flames game last night. They looked good and were the better team, but as always in hockey all players including the goalie need to be good. Price won them the game, but that's often how games are won.

Been there, done that. We need a starter, Rittich is showing he's quite capable as a backup.

Every team wants a top 10 starter, but if you don't have one you can get pretty good bang for your buck with a proven backup goalie and maybe avoid that 3rd goal from last night. Never hurts to have 2-3 guys making <$600k vying for each of those chances to prove themselves.

Ya, that was even worse.

Also, because I love our goalie and pissing off some Jets fans here, I'm going to combine both and let everyone know that Andersen has more 5 v 5 points than Laine this year.

Doubt it. Seattlites put down deposits at a $grand a pop for nearly 2 times what the arena will hold for season tickets. GA tickets for single games will be in the hundreds maybe.

Nevermind the fact that MLB teams play twice as many home games in stadiums twice the size of arenas. MLB tickets are easy for Canadians to snatch up if they're widely available.

Another backup isn't the answer, besides if we are looking for someone to put pressure on Smith, I'll take Mason over McElhinney any day, though I think the Flames would have to pick up the last year of his contract, or is Montreal still on the hook for that?

How is Andersen doing compared to Nylander?

Leafs complete the sweep of the California teams on this road trip, and are now first overall in the league....all this without the star player. They sputtered at first without Matthews, but seem to have find their stride. I'm wondering how good this team will be when Matthews comes back and gets back up to speed.

Not to mention when Nylander or the trade-equivalent joins the lineup.

The inevitable Leafs late-season swoon / early playoff exit is going to be so delicious this year!

Laine’s even strength assist on Connor’s goal and his 200mph snipe in the shootout were just spectacular. Hopefully Matthews and Nylander were watching from their couches.

I have to say that these aren’t your grandpa’s Buffalo Sabres though. That’s a pretty good team all of a sudden.

Flames win 10-0. Oilers fire their GM/Coach.

Win-win.

Patrick Laine might be the best 4th line player of all time. What a stud. Did you see his assist?
