Not that I've tried it so I honestly don't know what it would look like now that I'm thinking about it. I say someone should invert the color on a good photo of the W and we'll see!
In all seriousness, to me the W almost appears so dark gray that it seems black with blue-ish silver windows. You know it is said that us men don't see color as well as the ladies, at least when it comes to shades of blue, green and yellow. I know there are one or two women about on this forum, maybe they can chime in here with their opinions.
My aunt and her daughter both accused me of being color blind because I'm a man. They said it's typical. They didn't have any reason other than I was a man. So I had them quiz me. I could see everything they could. They shut up after that.

I'm can't see in the conventional sense. I'm very nearsighted.

To me it's charcoal grey, especially on overcast days. It crept into my list of favorite ATX skyscrapers by slowly winning me over. More than any other building, I've liked it more and more over time in spite of having thought little of it at first. Now I think it looks sophisticated and almost out of place because of that, what with Austin being an extremely self-conscious teen always striving (insecurely) to be hip. The W just quietly sits there KNOWING it's cool, not giving a shit about what we think of it.

Emporis lists the color of the facade as light grey, and light blue. And since Emporis said so, it must be light grey and light blue, and my eyes must be lying to me when I see dark greyish and bluish. I guess maybe slateish. At night it looks blackish.

I'm still voting for taupe grey, but otherwise I completely agree with your assessment of this building. I initially thought it was just a big dark box of a building. I especially did not like the hotel floors as seen from the street. Over a period of a year of so, I came to like just about every visual aspect of this building. It is very well designed and very, very slick.

I met up with one of the San Antonio forumers a couple of years ago on a trip there, and he mentioned that he really liked the W Hotel. It definitely is on a different level than some of the others. I mean, I really like the Frost Bank Tower and I think 360 is more iconic than people give it credit for, but the W really is unique.

You know, that's the first time I noticed rooftop parking on the CVC building.

That would be the Silicon Labs building. Yes, there's a great view from up there.
