D'oh I forgot about that Simpsons where they got to canada..

I was watching this cartoon on PBS called Postcards from buster(you know, the character from the arthur books and cartoons). He travels around the US. Once they were in houston and from their hotel room was an animated shot of downtown.

Not anime, but I somehow always like the night skyline in the Bjork Hyperballad video:

Check this out - The city of Olympus from the DVD version of Masamune Shirow's manga series Appleseed. Although this is a CG movie and not strictly an anime cartoon movie, I thought the city scenes in the DVD weren't half bad, although I like the manga series a lot better than the DVD as a whole for the characters and storyline. Check out those giant mirrored things. Each of those is supposed to be an arcology, which is basically a city in one huge building.

The two giant mirrored arcologies in Olympus - cities wthin a city.

The arcologies close up.

Olympus at night.

This is not Olympus. It's the ruins of another city where Deunan Knute, the show's main human character, was taken from in the beginning of the movie.

Shiny city!

It more a fortress, because when the city is under attack, all the tower can go underground.

A Screenshot from Ergo Proxy.

A rendition of the Vatican, Rome from Chrono Crusade

Not really a cityscape, but pretty cool anyway! This shows the length that anime people go to render their existing cities.

CanadianCentaur - there's an anime of Appleseed from a while back. it's good, but again, not as good as the manga.

CGII - Tokyo-3 was built as, well, the headquarters of a secret global agency, hence the lack of sprawl. and a lot of it is underground, for its protection. and it is in Japan, and they live densely.

I know. I've seen the DVD and I have a couple of manga books on Appleseed. I didn't like the DVD as much as the manga. Although the scenes and SFX were nice, the main characters' personalities (especially Briareos, the cyborg in my avatar) were as different from those in the manga series as night and day. The storyline's different and simplified compared to the manga series, which is often the case for a lot of manga-derived movies.

Eden of the East had a nice representation of NY, although not without some flaws.
